Matthew 2:9-12 When they heard the king, they departed. And the star which they saw in the east went before them until it came and stood over where the young Child was.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with great excitement. 11 And when they came into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary, His mother, and fell down and worshipped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh. 12 But being warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they returned to their own country by another route.
Having received instructions from Herod to find the new born "King" and report back to them, the Magi's departed from Jerusalem and continued to follow the eastern "star" until it came and stood over where the child was.
Scripture declares that when the Magi's saw the star, they rejoiced with great excitement in knowing that God would allow them to complete the journey they stared in finding the "Christ Child". Their joy symbolized a heart of anticipation and expectation of what was to come from their pursuit of and their visit with "King Jesus".
Oh, the joy of encountering Jesus and getting to know Him through a personal relationship with Him is beyond description.
These 3 gentile "wise men", being lead by the east star, traveled a great distance to present Christ with three gifts.
After finding Jesus, as a show of honor, reverence and respect to Him, the "wise men" or Magi's as they are known, bowed down, worshiped Him and presented the new born "KING" with 3 symbolic gifts. (1) Gold- the symbol for a King and the metal of a King. Jesus is born "King" of the Jews.
(2) Frankincense- the symbol of the High Priest. Incense was used by the priests in their worship. Jesus is the High Priest. He is the ultimate offering of sacrifice for the atonement of man's sin.
(3) Myrrh- the symbol of death. Myrrh was expensive and was used for embalming. Nicodemus who visited Jesus by night bought 70 pounds of myrrh to anoint Jesus body after His death.
Jesus is to be "Worshiped" by ALL the Nations of the World. These three "wise men" are proof. Jesus came to the Jew first, but He also came for ALL of humanity.
After having found Jesus, the "KING OF THE JEWS", and presenting Him with gifts, the 3 wise men were divinely instructed by God in a dream to return NOT to Herod, but to return to their country from another route.
LOOK AT GOD!!! Divine Providence! Regardless of what our eyes may see, GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL! You must BELIEVE this people of God!
God knew who Herod was, He knew his every thought and his every evil intent concerning the "Christ Child". God can not be deceived! He knows every strand of hair on our heads, he knows when we lie down and get up. Nothing about us is hidden from the eyes of God. His eyes are light, even in darkness!! GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!!!
The deceiver, Herod, ended up being deceived himself in the end. You reap what you sow!
The choice before ALL of us is to obey God, self or man. The "wise men" chose to obey the Spirit of the Lord that spoke to them in a dream.
The "Wise Men" saw the eastern star, they believed it was a sign from God that salvation had come to the gentiles, therefore, they prepared their gifts, took their journey in pursuit of seeing what God had shown them, they found the "Child", offered their gifts and returned home rejoicing for ALL God had revealed to them and had done for them.
Where are you in your relationship with God? Who are you obeying? God or self?
The Gospel has been revealed to ALL of mankind. The decision on your part is to accept or reject, believe or not to believe! There are no other option!
What is your "GIFT" to the king? My suggestion: Romans 12:1-I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship.
It is time to prepare to meet the "KING"! The bible declares that there will be a second coming. Are you ready?
Today is the day of preparation for no man knows what tomorrow holds.
Seek the Lord while it is yet day for when night comes, no man can work.
