James 1:13-15-Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil; neither does He tempt anyone. 14 But each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. 15 Then, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and when sin is finished, it brings forth death.
Tempted to blame God for the sin in your life? Don't do it for scripture declares that God tempts no one.
As humans, we are tempted to sin when we are drawn away by our own desires.
1 John 2:16-For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Of course, God tests the believers’ faith, but He does not tempt anyone into sin.
God tested Abraham's faith by asking him to sacrifice his son Isaac.
God tested Job's faith by allowing Satan to afflict him with all of his trials and suffering.
What was Job's response to God's testing of his faith after having received the news that he had lost all his children, all his servants and all his possessions? Job 1:20-21- Then Job stood up, tore his robe, and shaved his head. He fell to the ground and worshiped. 21 He said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb and naked will I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”
Job 13:15a-Though he slay me, yet will I trust in Him.
Temptation to sin is of man's own doing. Sin always begins in the mind with just a thought and then as we continue to ponder on it, sin then begins to move in our hearts where it takes root and then begins its process of action.
God never told Adam and Eve to eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He told them not to! But, the lust of the eyes, lust of the flesh-seeing that the fruit was good to eat, sin set in the mind and Eve chose to pride herself in listening to satan instead of God and sin entered into the world for all humanity.
God did not tempt Adam and Even to sin. It was their choice! Just like with us us, willful sin is a choice!
God tests our faith, but He never tempts us to sin.
There is a difference between testing of our faith and temptation to sin.
Test and trials are not a choice! Jesus Himself declares in John 16:33-I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.”
Job 14:1-Man who is born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble.
In scripture, we are reminded of what the testing of our faith produces.
Let's listen to James 1:3-For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. in other words, the testing of our faith strengthens our character and it teaches us how to persevere as we wait on God in the midst of hardship and or adversity.
Our faith is tested in many ways, but test and trials is just one of the vehicles that God uses to do just that, test our faith!
Yes, God will allow pain and suffering to come our way to not only test our faith but to strengthen our character and trust in Him.
Temptation on the on the other hand is a choice!
Where are you at today concerning your temptation to sin? Are you blaming God?
Don't blame God for God tempts no man to sin. Everyone of us is tempted when we are drawn away by our own lust and when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and when sin is finished, it brings forth death. Death here reference eternal separation from God.
To overcome temptation, we mus realize that the initial thought to sin comes from our sinful flesh that we inherit from our first parents, Adam and Eve.
1 Corinthians 10:13-The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.
People of God, let today be the day that we all purpose in our hearts that we will put forth ever effort to avoid situations and even people that will cause us to be tempted to sin.
A good way to start is to make a commitment to follow Christ. Get in the Word of God daily, commune daily with God through prayer and Connect with people that are already where you are trying to go spiritually and stay away from those that are not.
Regardless of what the temptation is that we all may face on a daily basis, God is able to help us get through. If we seek God for a way of escape from willful sin, He will give us a way of escape.
Overcoming temptation is like anything else. We must work hard at it. Is it possible? Well, according to the word of God, not in and of our own strength but with God's help, the answer is a resounding "YES." Philippians 4:13- I can do all things because of Christ who strengthens me.
Blaming God for your temptation to sin? Don't do it!
