Proverbs 19:20 Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
Proverbs 19:20-NLT Get all the advice and instruction you can, so you will be wise the rest of your life.
Our eyes were meant to read God’s words and our ears were meant to hear it. There is no "wise counsel" apart from God and His Word for they are one.
The wise man listens to godly advice, accepts instruction, continually and proactively seeks out wise counsel.
Seeking godly counsel has many benefits. It not only gives us another set of eyes and ears but it buys us time to think of our options and not allow us to run on in our own way and make decisions that could be detrimental to our future.
Psalm 1:1-Seek not counsel from the ungodly. Seek Godly council from those season saints who you know walk with the Lord.
Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.
Proverbs 10:17 Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life, but he who rejects reproof leads others astray.
Proverbs 28:26 Whoever trusts in his own mind is a fool, but he who walks in wisdom will be delivered
Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but a wise man listens to advice.
The command is to hear godly counsel and receive instructions, for by doing so you won't grow up as a foolish old man, separated from the true wisdom and counsel of God, which in turn causes you to miss Godly counsel that would have lead to your salvation.
Choosing to walk in God's wisdom not only brings about salvation, but it also benefits us by way of spending eternity with God and not separated from God.
If we truly confess to be wise in the eyes of God and not the world, our desires should be to grow in godly wisdom and instructions.
How do we grow in godly wisdom? By hearing and adhering to godly counsel, receiving godly instructions and applying it to our life by obedience to it. IT'S THAT SIMPLE!
Are you wiser than you were a year ago? How about a few months or a few weeks ago?
Do you consider yourself to be one who has gained godly wisdom and understanding from listening and obeying godly counsel over the last year or several months?
While it is yet day, we all have the same 24 hour in a day to make a change that will not only affect our now but our future.
To change the way our life will be in our latter days when we are old is determined by the fact that we have a choice today to receive wise counsel and instruction and apply it to our lives or to reject it.
In our old age, will we be a blessing to others by giving Godly counsel and instructions or will we be an old fool without godly wisdom?
What we do today determines what we will become tomorrow.
We all must consider our latter end and let today be the day that we choose to receive wise counsel and instructions for our life.
Psalm 90:12-So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.
Proverbs 14:12-There is a pathway that seems right to a man, but in the end it's a road to death. A road of eternal separation from God for those who refuse or rejcet godly counselor, instructions and the need to walk in them.
If we do as we are commanded in this text to listen to godly advice and accept discipline, at the end of our lives, we will be counted among the wise and not the fools who have rejected wise counsel and instructions
