Deuteronomy 14:2-For you are a holy people to the Lord your God, and the Lord has chosen you to be a peculiar people to Himself, treasured above all the nations that are on the earth.
Perculiar=periousios in the greek. Costly, treasured, select, specially chosen. Selected by God from the other nations for his own possession.
Different! This is the identification given to those who belong to God through Christ Jesus.
When we got saved and accepted Christ as Lord and Savior by faith, God adopted us into His family. Ephesians 1:5-God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.
Did you hear that? God decided to take us as His own. We did not choose Him, He chose us!
God called Israel to be different and those of us who have been adopted into His family by faith. We are God's treasured possession.
As believers in Christ, our attitude should be different from unbelievers, our character, our understanding, our ya should be ya and our na should be na.
Our view on life should be from the perspective of God's Word and not the world standard, our attitude should be one of the fruit of the spirit, our mind should be made up in standing firm on what we know to be true in the Word of God, we should not be easily persuaded to go against the things God has commanded us to stay away from, there should be a difference in us when we enter a place, we should look different, our demeanor should be different, our speech should be different our way of living should be different, our attitude towards God and His authority in our lives should be evident in how we live our lives daily because we have been changed. Our minds have been renewed by the washing of the Word of God.
We are different because we refuse to conform. We choose to go against the current of the world and for that we will be persecuted, but, know this, the enemy is under God's control. The key is to not conform, regardless of the opposition. Romans 12:2-Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Being transformed by the renewing of our mind has caused us to be different. We don't think like we used to, our talk is different, our lifestyle is different, we do not act like we used to with wayward behavior and lustful desires, we no longer hide in secret dark places in an attempt to cover our sins, we do not have the ugly attitudes that we used to have, we have learned to stand firm on our faith, regardless, all because we are no longer the same, but "different" through Christ.
Christians are to be different! We do not go along to get along. Or, should I say, we should not go along just to get along. In our walk with the Lord, we have to determine who can come along and who has to be let go of. Some things and some people MUST be left behind in order for us to grow as God leads and guides us by His Holy Spirit on the journey He is taking us in life.
The Apostle Paul described our old man, the person we was prior to salvation in Ephesians 4 as darkened in their understanding and separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the hardening of their hearts. 19 Having lost all sensitivity, they have given themselves over to sensuality so as to indulge in every kind of impurity, and they are full of greed.
The Apostle Peter sums up the difference that is or should be evident in us after salvation in 1 Peter 2:9-But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Different! We are no longer liars, cheaters, fornicator, deceivers, adulterers, deceitful, crafty, rebellious against God, enemies of God, but now children of God by faith through Christ Jesus.
Peter says that we are God's chosen people who belong to a royal family, separated by God for God's own purpose as his personal possession so that we may now with our transformed hearts and mind declare the praises of our God who has called us out of darkness (sin) and has brought us into His marvelous light ofsalvation.
Separated, set apart for God's service is who you are people of God.
Different? Indeed you are! No longer the same, no longer on the path of destruction and death, but on the path of righteousness and life everlasting with the Father in heaven because you are "different."
The world may see you as strange, but God sees you as "DIFFERENT." One who is set apart for His purpose and His glory.
Be different! Be who you are in God without any shame or conviction! Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and that your Father in heaven will receive the glory out of your life.
2 Corinthians 5:17- Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
Different! Yes, We are no longer the same! Thank you Jesus for dying that we might live. Thank you for choosing me.
Different! No longer a slave to sin and fear. No longer a slave to my flesh and the things of this world.
We are children of God! Glory Hallelujah!!!
We thank you Lord and we love you in Jesus name.
