Deuteronomy 30:1-15 See, today I have set before you life and prosperity, and death and disaster. 16 What I am commanding you today is to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, so that you may live and multiply. Then the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.
17 But if your heart turns away, so that you do not obey, but are drawn away, and worship other gods and serve them, 18 then I declare to you today that you will surely perish and that you will not prolong your days in the land which you are crossing the Jordan to go in and possess.
19 I call heaven and earth to witnesses against you this day, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live; 20 that you may love the Lord your God, that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him, for He is your life and the length of your days; and that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.
God had delivered Israel from Egyptian bondage and He lead them through the wilderness on their way to the land of promise that was filled with milk and honey.
The journey there was not gonna be easy and they would have to fight there way through, but God promised to be with them. The people doubted God and complained to Moses and Aaron and God became angry and said this to Aaron and Moses concerning His complaining and ungrateful people.
God said "everyone of you above the age 20 with the exception of Joshua and Caleb will die in the wilderness." They would not see the land of promise because of complaining and doubting God.
The descendants of the older generation that died in the wilderness will be the only survivors.
Moses now exhorts, urges, compel the younger generation of Israelites to obey God. He laid before them that day these choices and conditions given them by God Himself through Moses.
Moses lays before the children of Israel, these choices concerning what God expects of them and these same choices are being sent from heaven to earth to you and I on today.
(1) The Choice to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, so that you may live and multiply. Then the Lord your God will bless you in the land which you go to possess.
(2) Or, the other choice is to turn your heart away in disobedience and worship of other gods and serve them and when you do, there is a promise that you will surely perish in your disobedience and your days in the land of promise will be short. .
God does not want partial obedience for it is not obedience at all. He is looking for a total surrender to His will for our lives or nothing else.
Moses had spoken to the people what "thus says the Lord" and now the choice to obey or disobey was up to them for Moses says "today, I set before you life and death, blessing and curse."
In other words, Moses is saying, I have informed and warned you today concerning God's will for you. The choice is yours from here on out.
As with Israel then, so it is with us on today. Our life outcome depends on the decision we make to either obey, disobey, receive or reject the commands laid down by God in His word for HIS creation. You do know that it is the Lord that has made you and not yourselves, right?
God has spoken through Moses and there is no compromising. His Word stands as it was spoken then and as it is written today.
The will of God for you and I is that we choose life by receiving and obeying God's word. Regardless, life and death has been placed before all of us and we determine the choice and the outcome of our now and our future.
I pray that you choose life so that you may live and enjoy the abundance of what God has for you now and in the future.
Remember, there are only 2 options, but one choices and they are obedience or disobedience. Blessings or curse. There is NO other choice but Him as far as God is concerned. God is the final authority! He is the maker and creator of all, therefore, He calls the shots.
Blessings or curse? To live with God or apart from God? Which have you chosen?
