Proverbs 13:18-Poverty and shame will be to him who refuses instruction, but he who regards reproof will be honored.
Proverbs 13:18- NIV Whoever disregards discipline comes to poverty and shame, but whoever heeds correction is honored.
We live in a society and world today that is straying away from the principles of God's word as to the standard of life living that God has called us to in His Word.
Instead of calling right “right” and wrong “wrong,” anything goes and everything is accepted freely except the Gospel, the one thing that is needed more than anything in this world.
The desire to be accepted by the world and its standards are very dangerous and have driven and are driving many away from the desire to receive correction from the Word of God. Instead, they reject it and have convinced themselves that they can have God and the world at the same time as they live life pleasing themselves.
The mindsetof "me, myself and I" is, when life is good, stick with the world, but when tragedy, hardship or trouble strikes, call out to God for my temporary help and then return to the world and it's way of life when things seems to be going in the direction I want it.
Only a fool believes that God is a fool! How in the world can you be smarter than your creator? Explain that to me! In all your getting, get understanding!
1 Corinthians 8:6-But we know that there is only one God, the Father, who created everything, and we live for Him. And there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom God made everything and through whom we have been given life.
Refusing Godly counsel? Is this where you find yourself on today?
The bible says that God created man in His own image. Not physical, but spiritual.
John 4:24-God is a spirit and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.
To live according to the life God has outlined for us in His word does not come without correction and discipline.
In these human bodies, we have a tendency to do what we want to and when we want to, with whom we want to, but God wants His Word to be our guide and instruction tool for life and living and not self, society, nor the world.
The call to humanity now more than ever is to to walk (life our life) in the wisdom of God and not in the wisdom of "SELF PRIDE." We are told in Proverbs 4:7-Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
To walk in the wisdom of God is to be wise. To walk not in the wisdom is foolish.
Let's listen to what King Solomon, the wisest man ever lived has to say in Proverbs 13:1-A wise son responds to his father’s discipline, but a mocker doesn’t listen to rebuke.
In other words, "wisdom" listens but a scoffer (fool) rejects correction.
If you ever get to the point where your unteachable spirit causes you to refuse to learn from your earthly parents or heavenly Father, you will not be fit for the Kingdom of God.
1 Peter 5:5-In the same way you younger people must submit yourselves to your elders. And all of you must put on the apron of humility, to serve one another; for the scripture says, “God resists the proud, but shows favor to the humble.”
Living your life according to you and refusing Godly counsel is where you find yourself on today? Have you purposed in your heart that "this is your life and you live it how you want to?"
Wise in your own eyes and refusing instructions from the Word of God? The bible calls you a "FOOL!"
Proverbs 10:17-People who accept discipline are on the pathway to life, but those who ignore correction will go astray.
Proverbs 12:1-Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but he who hates correction is stupid.
Stupid is a very specific word that is used to describe what King Solomon thought about those who will not receive discipline. He says, “he who hates correction is stupid.” In other words, If we refuse to be corrected and will not hear nor receive discipline, ware are stupid.
What is King Solomon point to all of us on today? His warning is clear. If you reject correction, it will lead to “poverty and disgrace at your own doing.”
Many families have been broken up, many marriages ended in divorce, many children have gone wayward, many have ended it all by way of suicide or homicide, many have quit the Christian race, many have rejected God for the world, many have wrecked their lives, many have died separated from God, and on and on are the causes of unwise thinking and choices from a mind that operates in "self" and not in the knowledge and wisdom of God.
Living your life according to the pleasing of your flesh? Your sins will find you out. They will bring you to open exposure, rebuke, guilt, shame and correction.
I can only hope and pray that spiritual poverty and disgrace will not be your end.
I pray that we all seek God for wisdom through His Holy Spirit, His Word and prayer for guidance, direction and the courage to go against the currents of the world.
The waves and currents of "self" are full of uncertainty and guaranteed defeat. Without the anchor called "Jesus" in this stormy, rainy and sometimes thunderous seas of life, we are bound to drown and be lost out at sea forever.
To be drowned and lost at sea is not for those who receive Godly wisdom and instruction, but for those who are described in scripture as a fool who rejects the wisdom and counsel of God.
Where do you stand today as far as the wise counsel of God that is being offered to you? Do you believe you have a need for it? Or, do you believe that wise counsel comes from you and not from God?
Do you want to live a life of pleasing the flesh and die empty and separated from God?
There is a path of life in which God calls us to take and it is call the "narrow path" where Jesus said "few find it" because many are on the path called the "wide path" that eventually lead to destruction and eternal separation from God.
Isaiah 48;17-This is what the LORD, your protector, says, the Holy One of Israel: "I am the LORD your God, who teaches you how to succeed, who leads you in the way you should go.
The choice that we are all left with today is to accept or refuse Godly counsel.
In His Word, God has laid out the reward for those who accept His counsel and for those who refuse it.
Here is God's reward for the fool who rejects wise counsel and for the wise who receives it. Let's listen: Poverty and shame will be to him who refuses instruction, but he who regards reproof will be honored.
