2 Corinthians 4:8-9 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed.
The goal of God for every believer is to make us into the image of Christ.
Once we have received Jesus into our hearts by faith, God through His Holy Spirit begins a work in us called sanctification, which is the process of making us more like Christ until the day we take our final breath.
Unfortunately, change or transformation is not without pain. To be honest with you, it is a part of the process of the change from the old man to the new that NONE of us want to experience, but, it is one that is of necessity in order for us to be conformed to the likeness of Christ.
Life may knock us down, but it has not knocked us out.
In his writing of this text the Apostle Paul reminds us that quitting is not an option for the people of God, regardless of what is thrown at us or what we might have to endure or suffer for the sake of Christ.
In other words, it does not matter if persecution, rejection, envy, hate, opposition, jealousy, lies, wrong judgment of us, etc., we are not to give up, throw in the towel and call it quits. NO!!! We must keep pressing toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
I think what happens with us is when trouble, opposition or persecution comes our way, we forget that God is still with us. Yes, He is right there with us! He is in us and everywhere we go, He is there with us.
Jesus reminds us that in this world we will have trouble, but be of good cheer for He has overcome the world!!
We are reminded in this same text, of the power of God that lives in us. Let's listen to vs#7-But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us. The "TREASURE" that we have within us is the "HOLY SPIRIT" who give us the power and ability to endure the troubles of life that is guaranteed to come against us and not cause us to live our life in distress.
Yes, we may be knocked down a lot on this christian journey, but the good news is that if you are still alive, God has not allowed the enemy to have his way in knocking us down to the point of us not being able to get back up. You can take a shout break right here! GLOOORRRYYYY!!
The Apostle Paul can encourage us because He has come where we are going. He was persecuted beyond measure and endured one hardship after another, yet, he did not give up and quit. With the help of the Holy Spirit that was in him, he was able to press through fiery trials, death threats, persecution, being ship wrecked, bitten by a snake, lost at sea, being wrongfully imprisoned, denied a fair trial by his false accusers and many other persecution and sufferings that would have caused many to have quit the Christian race.
How did he do it? How can we do it? We must keep God in view by daily reading, meditating and studying of the Word, pray, trust God and what He says in His Word, in spite of what we see with the natural eyes, keep believing that God's Word is true and that the day is coming that He will avenge us. WE MUST BELIEVE THAT PEOPLE OF GOD!
Yes, on this journey we will have times of feeling preplexed or confused about troubles and suffering as a believer, but, do not let it lead you to despair for the Lord is our God and He is our hope today and tomorrow.
Feeling the pressure from persecution? The good news is that you are not forsaken. No, you are not alone for the Lord our God is forever with us. He is in you. Cry out to Him for He promises to hear and answer your prayer. Proverbs 15:29-The LORD is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayers of the righteous.
Feeling cast down? Why are you sad or discouraged? Put your hope in God and not in man or what you see for true hope is found in God alone.
People of God, do not lose heart. Even though the struggle is real and may appear hard at times, remember, our outward man is perishing, yet our inward man is being renewed day by day.
Yes, we will get knocked down a lot on this journey called life, but those of us who walk with God WILL get back up!
Knocked down, but not knocked out! With Jesus on our side, we are gonna make it!!
God bless and do tell the Lord thank you that the enemy did not have his way in keeping you down for the Lord our God has raised you up out despair and has lifted us up to a place of joy, hope and peace in Him.
I was knocked down, but God lifted me right back up!
Thank you Lord! We Love you on today!
