Matthew 16:16-Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
In this text, when asked by Jesus "who is He to Him", Peter declares that Jesus is "The Christ, The Son of the living God"!
Who is Jesus to you? Is He just someone for you to call on in time of help or need? Is he someone who is recognized when all hell is breaking loose in your life? Who is He to you?
Is His name proclaimed by you when you feel a need to prove to others that you know of Him? Who is He to you?
Who is Christ? Is He your Savior? Is He your Redeemer? Who is He to you?
Having asked His disciples what is the word out on the street from the people as to who He is, His disciples replied with different answers. They said "some say you are John the Baptist, some say Elijah or Jeremiah the prophets or maybe one of the prophets.
Having heard His disciples response as to what the word is out on the streets concerning His identity, Jesus now makes it personal by specifically asking Peter "who do you say I am?"
In other words, Jesus was now looking for a personal confession as to who His close followers (disciples) believed about Him who is filled with God's spirit, Him who is anointed to proclaim the good news, Him who was sent to proclaim freedom to the prisoners and recover sight to the blind, Him who came to set the oppressed free, heal the sick and save the lame and poor. Who is He to you?
The question that remains to be answered by each and every one of us is "Who is Jesus to me?" Who do I declare Him to be? What is the word in my heart and mouth as to who Jesus really is?
Having confirmed who Jesus was to Him, Jesus responds back to Peter with these profound words in vs#17-“Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.
Jesus response to Peter in my paraphrasing is: "Peter, you did not have knowledge of what you just said as to who I am for it was the Spirit"of God, my Father who is in heaven that revealed to you who I really am."
Jesus said flesh and blood could not not have revealed that to you. Mortal man could not have known nor ever know who I am apart from God's Spirit revealing it to him.
Who do you confess Jesus to be on today? Who is Jesus in your life? What is the word in your heart, mind and mouth as to who Jesus is to you?
I pray that each and everyday when you arise and throughout your day, this question is always at the forefront of your mind. If it is, you will do your best to live in a way that is pleasing to Christ and not the flesh.
Who do you say Jesus is? What has been revealed to you about Jesus' identity?
Who is Jesus to you? In what way are you being identified with Him on a daily basis?
Does your life exemplify Christlike behavior? Does your life shows evidence that you have been in the presence of "Christ" who is the Son of the Living God?
Who is Jesus to you?
