James 1:8 A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.
Double minded=dipsuchos in the greek. It means of two minds, double minded, wavering, of two souls, of two selves. Divided in interest namely, between God and the world.
Unstable= akatastatos in the greek and means unsteady, unstable, unsettled, restless.
A double-minded Christian is always being torn in two directions. God and self.
In this text, the Apostle James describes a double minded man as being unstable in all that he does.
This doubtful, wavering, unsteady, restless person, says James, is like the waves of the sea, who is being tossed to and fro by the wind in their thoughts, action and behavior and should not expect anything from God.
To be double-minded is to go back and forth in our thinking and in our faith. We may start out with strong faith and confidence in God, but as time goes by and when the difficult circumstances, test and trials of life that comes to us appears to bring with it no quick solution or relief on our time clocks, we begin to doubt that God will do what He has promised.
Many people claim to be in a right with God and the world at the same time. it's impossible! We can not pledge allegiance to 2 people at the same time. Either we are with God or not with Him is the bottom line.
We either love God and serve God, or love and serve the world system and all it's pleasures. No man, I say NO MAN can serve two masters. Jesus declares this also!
James 4:4-Don’t you know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? So whoever wants to be the friend of the world becomes the enemy of God.
God’s Word has all of the answers to every questions that has ever been thought of or ever will be asked. When in doubt, ask God to give you revelation and understanding through His Word as to what the Holy Spirit is trying to say to you concerning those nagging and doubtful question you have been pondering on.
We can only rid ourselves of double mindedness and being unstable in all our ways is by first acknowledging that God is and coming into agreement with Him in His word. We clearly saw the results of what it is to be like minded on the day of pentecost. Scripture says they were all on one accord.
The 120 in that upper room were on one accord in agreement and obedience to what God commanded them to do in waiting on the "Comforter" to come. They trusted God, believed what He said and waited with expectation and the manifestation came. They saw the manifestation because they allowed their faith to rise above doubt.
The instability that is so visible among man in our world today is a direct result of man seeking to listen to self and his desire to please others rather than God.
Do not make this terrible mistake. Rather, faithfully serve the Lord with all your heart and lean not unto your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct our paths.
Proverbs 4:23-Guard your heart above all else, for it is the source of life.
My advise to ALL of us on today is if we have been living to please self or others, it is time to turn away from all idol gods and turn to the true and living God.
How can we as people of God be protected and delivered from being unstable and double minded? There are many ways in the word of God, therefore, I will name a few.
(1) It starts with knowing that wisdom begins and ends with God. Reverencing Him, His power and authority over us and the universe.
Hebrews 11:6-And without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Proverbs 9:10-The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
To be protected and delivered from being unstable and double minded also requires us to (2) Resist self and humbly submit ourselves to God's Sovereign rule as King on the throne of our hearts.
Once we have come to the understanding that God alone is, we must then submit to His authority and rule in our lives. (3) We must draw night unto Him. James 4:8-Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Believe it or not, but the Word of God is the only stability on which we can count on and live by in these perilous, deceptive and evil days that are upon us.
Dealing with doubt and an unstable mind? Need spiritual stability? Open your bible and see what the Word of God has to say concerning it for it is indeed the only road map to true wisdom, understanding and a stable mind.
Proverbs 23:7a- For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.
If you are unstable, ask God who gives wisdom freely to all, and He will do just that for you.
STABLE MIND=GOD! Is He Lord in your Life? Does He sit on the throne of your heart? Is His word priority in your life?
Ponder these questions on today for they will begin to help you know if you are stable or unstable in your mind.
STABILITY-THE WORD OF GOD ALONE!
