Proverbs 1:7- The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Fear=phobos in the greek and means fear, terror, alarm, to reverence or respect, a sense of awe.
In this text, we are given the prescription on how true knowledge and wisdom is obtained. We are also given the identification of those who despise godly wisdom and counsel.
They are described as "fools" who receives not wisdom and instruction from the Lord, but from self. Proverbs 18:2-A fool finds no satisfaction in trying to understand, for he would rather express his own opinion.
Wise men reverence, respect and are in awe of our God who is the Sovereign God of the universe.
Until we understand who God is and develop a reverential fear of Him through His Word and in communion with Him in prayer, we will never have true wisdom because it only comes from our God who alone is Holy, Wise, Just, and Righteous.
Want true wisdom? Travel the road of faith that leads to God. That road is called "scriptures" and can only be found in the drive way of the pages of God's Bible.
True wisdom begins with reverence of who God is and ends with God. To know God is to know divine wisdom.
When we learn to respect the person, position and authority of God as One whom we all will one day stand before and give an account to one day, then we will be on our way to understanding true wisdom that comes from God alone.
To fear the Lord is to put our faith, hope and trust in His unfailing love for us.
Do you reverence the Lord? We are commanded in scripture to have reverence for Him. Let's listen to Psalm 33:8 “Let all the earth FEAR the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him!"
To learn and understand the wisdom of God, there is something that has to take place daily within us. Matthew 16:24-Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me.
When we set out daily to crucified self to follow Christ, we gain wisdom and understanding that allows us to be be identified with Christ as one of His followers. Let's listen to Galatians 5:24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.
As humans we have a tendency to be impressed with all the powers and knowledge of the world, but it is those things of the world that does not please nor impress God.
Psalm 147:10-11 He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man. 11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
People of God, "fear the Lord your God"! Take shelter in Him on today for whatever storm you may be in the midst of for He promises to be a shelter in the time of storm. He will guide you through with His wisdom and understanding by the leading of His Holy Spirit.
People of God, trust the Lord your God on today do whatever it is that you are in desperate need of.
James 1:5-If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
It brings God pleasure when we trust Him to take care of us, when we believe that He is able to help us in our time of need, that He is our strength when we are weak, our very present help in the time of trouble and our source of all things.
Do you fear the Lord? It would be in your best interest now and in eternity if you do.
