2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness. But He is patient with us, because He does not want any to perish, but all to come to repentance.
One of the great lessons we can learn from the Old Testament is the fact that God will keep His promises. In it we see promise after promises and one prophecy after another of which many have been fulfilled in the New Testament and many are still yet to come.
In this text, Peter is addressing those who are mocking God's Word concerning His 2nd Coming because the time has not yet come. God's Word may appear to be delayed in the eyes of man, but it is always on time where God is concern.
We are to be reminded in this text that it is not that God's Word is not true. It is not that God will not fulfill the promises He made concerning anything He promises or says, but, the fact of the matter is that God's timing is not our timing.
We are reminded in vs#8- But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
God's timing is not man's timing, neither are God's thoughts and ways are as man. God's ways and thoughts are Higher!
God just does not do something without a purpose and meaning behind it. There is a purpose for everything that God does and everything that He created, including man.
For example, the promise of "salvation" for sinful humanity.
Scripture declares that before the foundation of the world the "LAMB" had been slain and God had already enacted a plan in His mind about how He was going to save man because He knew that man would fall in the garden after creation.
Before Christ would come, there was a symbolic offering of animals blood as a sacrifice offered once a year on behalf of the people's sin.
As a foreshadow of what was to come through Christ Jesus, we are given a vivid picture of a sinless blood sacrifice that was offered on behalf of man for his sins when God killed an animal and used its skin to cover Adam and Eve in the garden after their sin of disobedience in eating the forbidden fruit.
This act of love by God was a picture of His love, grace and mercy towards humanity and not His wrath.
Jesus is coming back!
Right now, God is waiting on you to repent!
Make no mistake about it! There will be a 2nd coming of Christ. There is no doubt concerning that! God promises it and scripture declares it, therefore, that settles it where God is concerned!
Peter gives us two facts that explains why God has not sent His Son back YET for the 2nd coming. (1) God's timing is not man's timing. (2) God is giving humanity time to repent so they can be saved.
Today, many unbeliever’s are still mocking God with these words "I have heard it preached all my life that GOD is soon coming and that His judgement is soon coming." Where is your God? He has not come and you keep on saying it. Where is He?"
Mock God all you want, but, God's Word is true and if you think you got lots of time to get it right with God, my advise to you is to stop the mockery and get yourself prepared to one day meet Him for Heis coming.
Now is the acceptable time. Today is the day of salvation. Do it NOW while the blood is still running warm in your body. No man knows the day nor the hour when the Master will come.
We are warned in this text of that unexpected, dreadful day for all who do not know Christ in vs#10 - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
The truth of the matter is "CHRIST IS COMING BACK"! When? Only God knows that. It is not for you and I to know. It is only for us to know that He is coming back, and to be ready when He does.
The question to be answered by all of us is "WILL WE BE READY?" This question is more important than any other question we will ever answer in this life time. WILL WE BE READY WHEN CHRIST RETURN?
What will be our spiritual condition when Christ returns?
God keeps His promise. Not one word spoken by God shall fall to the ground. Every Word He utters will come to pass. Before one of his words fail, both heaven and earth will pass away.
I want to leave you with this scripture for future reference just in case you have any problems, questions, concerns of belief issues with what God has written in His word.
Here is a little pain medicine for mockers, deceivers, doubter and those that have a problem with unbelief concerning God's promises found in His Word called the Bible.
Here you go:Numbers 23:19- God is no mere human! He doesn’t tell lies or change his mind. God always keeps his promises.
My advise to all mockers is to "TAKE GOD AT HIS WORD" for every bit of it will come to fruition.
Remember, God is not slack concerning His promises. He is patiently waiting on you to repent so that He can show you mercy before it's too late.
BELIEVE GOD, NOT THE MOCKERS AND WAIT FOR THE MANIFESTATION OF WHAT GOD PROMISE THAT IS GUARANTEED TO COME.
