Proverbs 3:7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and depart from evil.
WISE=phronimos in the greek and means practically wise, sensible. One who deems himself wise. Wise in one's own conceits.
There is a way that seems right unto man but the end of it leads to death. In other words, living life according to what is right in your eyes eventually separates you from God now and possibly in eternity if you turn not to the Lord, but continue on in your way of rebellion against the wisdom and knowledge of God which is the power unto the saving of our souls.
Proverbs 4:7-Wisdom is principal; therefore get wisdom. And with all your getting, get understanding.
Be not wise in your own eyes, but do as we are commanded in Psalm 27:5-Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you.
Do not think more highly of yourself than you ought. Romans 12:3 For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sound judgment, according to the measure of faith God has distributed to every man.
Do not be puffed up and prideful in believing that we are more than we are. Pride comes not from God but from the adversary of our minds who has convinced us that we are not only wise in our own eyes, but also that counsel and wisdom from God's Word is not needed in our decision making and life affairs.
Proverbs 12:15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But a wise man is he who listens to counsel.
Determined to be wise in your own eyes and live according to what is right and pleasing to self? Rejecting God's Wisdom and truth found in His Word? Is this where you find yourself on today?
There is evidence of people in the bible who did the same and here is what scripture says about them in Psalm 81:11-12 “But no, my people wouldn’t listen. Israel did not want me around. 12 So I let them follow their own stubborn desires, living according to their own ideas.
When we refuse God's wisdom and His truth, He turns us over to what is called a "reprobate mind". Reprobate=adokimos in the greek and reference to persons cast away or rejected because they have failed to make use of opportunities offered them. Failing to pass the test, unapproved, counterfeit.
A reprobate mind believes that right is wrong and wrong is right. You live according to what is right in your own eyes and you suffer the consequences that comes along with wrong choices.
Reprobates (those who choose to live as wise according to self) are described this way in 2 Timothy 3:5-Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
The Apostle Paul describes two men named Jannes and Jambres as those who “resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith" in 2 Timothy 3:8-Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
When you have allowed self wisdom in your mind to rise above God's Wisdom that is found in His Holy Bible, you are in a dangerous place mentally, spiritually, emotionally and eternally if your mind is not transformed by the word of God before you transition from earth to eternity.
God's Word, which is God's Wisdom and instructions for life and living is still available today, but with a mindset of "wise in my own eyes" will cause you to miss true wisdom and possibly eternity with God if you do not change your way of thinking.
Living with a reprobate mind? Rejecting God's truth found in His word?
God's grace and mercy is available to you on today. Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Romans 12:2-Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
To fall not into the trap of being "wise in my own eyes", we must daily wash our minds with the Word of God where true wisdom is found.
The truth of God's word is still available right now to all who would believe on Him by faith. However, if you continue to reject God's truth and accept truth based on what you say is truth, your truth will not be heard by God.
If you are willing to turn away from self to God by faith, He promises to hear and answer you.
Do not be "WISE" in your own eyes by thinking more highly than you ought.
Wise in your own eyes? The bible calls you a "FOOL"!
In need of divine wisdom? Turn to Christ for He alone has the words that can not only transform your mind but save your soul.
The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path.
Trust in the Lord with all thy heart and lean not unto thy own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.
God bless.
