Psalm 119:169 - Let my cry come near before You, O Lord; give me understanding according to Your word.
As one who seems to be in desperation of God's undivided attention on his behalf, we find David in this text crying out to the Lord His God in fervent prayer.
David's prayer of mercy to God is a personal cry (petition) for God to not only hear his prayer, but that God would give him understanding through discernment of His Word.
God's Word is the standard of our faith as Christians. We need His Word every minute and every hour of everyday because the days in which we now live are perilous and evil.
We need the Word of God to help us discern the will of God and to be able to see the will of satan against us too so that we can choose the path of righteousness and not the path of the world that is headed for destruction.
David wants to make sure that God's response to him is received and understood according to God's Word and God's knowledge and not his own. David is in need of assurance that there are no hindrance in his prayer nor his understanding in God's response to him.
Give me understanding according to thy word is his plea. David's prayer shows an earnest desires to know and understand God's truth so that he may apply it to his life accordingly.
What about you and I? is it our desire to know and understand God's Word of truth so that we too can obey apply it to our lives according to His will for us?
Is David's prayer to the Father your prayer to Him on today? Are you standing in need of assurance that God hears you and that you need more understanding of what God is saying to you? If we could be honest for a moment, David's prayer is the much needed prayer of ALL of us.
God is the one who gives us understanding and deliverance. He is the one who instructs us and helps us.
The prayer for God's ear and His understanding of the truth precedes our deliverance.
We are reminded of the importance of understanding in Proverbs 4:7-Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Give me You Lord for everything else can wait! Is this your cry unto the Lord your God on today?
This is the humble cry of the Psalmist David who boldly goes to God's throne of grace and mercy as a needy beggar before a ALL SUFFICIENT God.
I heard a Pastor say this a couple of weeks ago. "The best thing one beggar can do is to tell another beggar where to find the bread". Jesus is the "BREAD OF LIFE"!
The Word of God is the "spiritual bread" that we MUST daily eat or we will die of spiritual malnutrition.
Cry out today to the Lord your God on today like David did for the much needed bread of heaven that our survival depends on.
We need Godly wisdom, understanding and discernment. It is the word of God that reveals to us how we DESPERATELY need His Word for our sin problems. Yes, it is God alone who has the solution to man's sin problems.
1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time. 7 Cast all your care upon Him, because He cares for you.
The plea to God in this verse is, “SAVE ME (deliver me) ACCORDING to YOUR WORD.” Apart from your WORD, I am lost.
What is you plea to God on today? I can only hope and pray it is the same as David's prayer: "Save me according to Your Word"!
God bless.
