Romans 15:4 For whatever was previously written was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
Hope=elpis in the Greek and means expectation, trust, confidence; expectation of what is sure (certain); hope.
GENTILES=ethnos in the greek and means a race, people, nation; the nations, heathen world, Gentiles. In other words, NON JEWS.
Paul, an Apostle to the Gentiles, reminds us in his letter he wrote to the church at Rome that the written Word of God from long ago was written for our learning, that through patience and through encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
In Genesis 12 God made a covenant promise with Abraham. God told Abraham in Genesis 12:2-3"I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." This promise was fulfilled in the coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
God did not make a covenant with the gentiles. No, it was with Abraham and the Patriarch (isaac and Jacob) who through the (12 sons of Jacob) would come the nation of Israel.
Gentiles, (non jews) did not know the true and living God. They worshiped idols, statue, and all types of different gods they created for themselves.
The worship of idol and false gods lead the gentiles further and further away from the true and living God into a place of spiritual darkness in their minds, soul, body, spirit and lifestyles.
It is to those gentiles who do not know the hope of glory through Christ that Paul is writing this message of hope to on today.
Having no hope and separated from God is the worst thing that could happen to anyone. We who are save now know this for a fact because lost and separated from God was once our state of being.
This is where you and I would still be if God had not brought the Gospel of Jesus Christ to us and gave us the option of being in a covenant agreement with him by Faith in the atoning work of Christ at Calvary and His resurrection. We too would still be what is known as the "walking dead" spiritually.
Many in our world are still in spiritual darkness, worshiping idols of all kind and daily living their lives apart from God and His Word, but, there is "HOPE" that is still yet available to all that would believe.
Where is this hope that God promise to Israel and has made available to all in the 4 corners of the world today? This hope is in Christ Jesus!
1 John 5:13-14 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God. 14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us.
So where will the Gentiles find hope that can deal with sin and death, a hope that is firmly grounded, a hope of assurance that is secure and certain?
Where and in what is your hope? is it in Jesus? Where is it? Jesus is the only assurance!
The Apostle Paul is declaring to all mankind from the 4 corners of the world on today that it has always been God's plan to include the gentiles in this "HOPE" that is found in Him alone through Christ Jesus.
Romans 15:8-9 I tell you that Christ came as a servant of the Jews to show that God has kept the promises he made to their famous ancestors. Christ also came, 9 so that the Gentiles would praise God for being kind to them. It is just as the Scriptures say,“I will tell the nations about you, and I will sing praises to your name.
The good news on today is the fact that God always had a plan to include the gentiles in His one people of hope and praise. GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST!!! THANK YOU LORD!
The hope of the Gentiles has come through Abraham seed who is Jesus Christ our Lord. Through the act of Christ shedding His blood at Calvary, payment in full was rendered for all humanity.
Christ death says God is no respecter of person. Galatians 3:18-There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
The "LIGHT OF HOPE" is shining bright still today. JESUS IS THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD!
Romans 8:24-25 For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one also hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.
The Bible was written and preserved so that we might obtain hope through it.
Are you connected to God through His Word that He has now made available to you? It was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and encouragement of the Scriptures YOU might have hope.
