Revelations 21:4 - God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. There shall be no more death.’[a] Neither shall there be any more sorrow nor crying nor pain, for the former things have passed away.”
The Apostle John was exiled to the island of Patmos as a result of anti-Christian persecution for preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
On an island, isolated so it seems with no one to preach to, John eventually realized that the presence of God's Holy Spirit is right there with him and he is not alone afterall.
It was after John's arrival to the Isle of Patmos that God told John to write the vision. Revelations 1:19 - Write down what you have seen-both the things that are now happening and the things that will happen.
John's writing on the vision given him on the Island of Patmos has become the last book of the bible called "Revelations".
This text before us is a part of that vision where John is shown a new heaven and a new earth for the former heaven and earth had now been passed away. In this vision John saw the Holy City, New Jerusalem.
Today’s passage includes a vision of a new heaven and new earth in the New Jerusalem which God Himself declares that He will wipe every tear from our eyes.
John said in vs#2 of this text : And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
John said this New Jerusalem he saw in a vision came down from heaven was prepared by someone for someone. It is metaphorically described as a bride dressed in her wedding gown and ready to meet her husband.
The Groom is Christ and the Bride is the people of God who have been born again by faith through Christ Jesus. It is these people that the New Jerusalem has been prepared for by Christ.
Remember what Jesus said about a prepared place for a prepared people in John 14:2-3 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places. If it were not so, I would have told you. I am going to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, you may be also.
Everybody talking about heaven ain't going! Heaven is a prepared place for prepared people. Are you making preparations to one day meet Jesus is the question to be answered. Is His will for your life your will? Have you been born again by the Spirit of God?
It is in this Great City called New Jerusalem where we will lack nothing for everything we need will be supplied. It will be a place of perfection that was prepared and made by the hands of God for you and I.
It is in this new city where John declares that God shall wipe away all the tears from our eyes. It is this new city of Jerusalem that John not only declares that there shall be no more tears, but no more death, no more sorrow, no more crying and no more pain for the former things have been passed away in this vision.
Also in John's vision, he says in vs#3 that he heard a great voice out of heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them and be their God."
Oh what GREAT NEWS that should cause the people of God to break out in a shout of thanksgiving and praise for today this news is ringing loud, clear and true in the hearts and minds of those that love God and are called according to His purpose.
The joy and peace of knowing that one day we will have everlasting peace, joy and comfort in the presence of the Lord our God is a reason to rejoice. Rejoice I say in the Lord!
On that Great getting up morning, we will know without a doubt that scripture has been fulfilled in our lives that says this is Romans 8:18 that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.
God Himself shall be with us. He will forever be our God and we will forever be His people. When Jesus said "I will never leave you or forsake you", He meant every word of it!
No more tears!!! Say that to yourself people of God! No more tears! These are the continued words of the voice John heard in vs#3 that is being carried over to vs#4.
No more tears for God shall wipe them ALL away! All the tears we shed now on earth, will be no more for in the New Jerusalem God will wipe them away.
In the New Jerusalem the former things will be passed away and ALL things will become new.
No more tears! Matthew 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
NO MORE TEARS IN THAT GREAT CITY CALLED NEW JERUSALEM!!
People of God, you have a reason to sing and rejoice. God has given us a promise in His Word that is guaranteed to come to pass.
Lift every voice and sing til earth and heaven rings with the harmony of liberty.
Yes, when we get to that Great City Called New Jerusalem, we will indeed have been set free from every sickness, disease, pain, suffering and sorrows.
THANK YOU LORD!
Your servant Debra
