2 Timothy 4;3-4 For the time will come when people will not endure sound doctrine, but they will gather to themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires, having itching ears, 4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn to myths.
This text is a part of a letter of warning to the people of God from the Apostle Paul to Timothy, his spiritual son concerning the time that will come when men will not desire sound doctrine from scripture, but instead what is pleasing to their desires.
Itching ears! Are we too living in this time that Paul wrote to Timothy about?
We are living in perilous times and people need to get saved NOW!
Itching ears” is a figure of speech that refers to people’s desires and want of what they think is best for them verses what God says in His Word is best for us.
Itching ears are more concerned about what feels good. Apart from God’s truth which is often uncomfortable to many, there is no other truth.
God is not in the business of making us feel good, it is His desire that none should perish but that all would repent and come to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
Paul’s warning is that the church would one day contain those who openly and boldly seek out self gratification and not the desire for the transforming, saving grace of God for their souls by the power of the Word of God.
What is the Gospel? The “GOOD NEWS” of Jesus Christ. The saving grace of God that provides redemption and salvation for humanity by faith through Christ Jesus.
According to Romans 1:16-The Gospel is God’s powerful way of saving all people who have faith, whether they are Jews or Gentiles.
Faith in what? Faith in what took place over 2k years ago at Calvary Cross where Jesus Christ died and shed his blood on behalf of humanity as the ultimate sacrifice for the sins of humanity. Faith in the resurrection power of God that caused Jesus to get up 3 days later with all power in His hands.
So as it was in the days of Apostle Paul, it is in our day. The sound teaching and preaching of the Gospel message is welcoming to some, annoying and bothersome to others.
The purpose of preaching the Gospel is for soul winning to the Kingdom of God. There is no other Gospel!
In his rebuke to the church at Galatia the Apostle Paul says this in Galatians 1:6-9 I’m amazed that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ to follow another gospel. 7 It’s not really another gospel, but certain people are confusing you and they want to change the gospel of Christ. 8 However, even if we ourselves or a heavenly angel should ever preach anything different from what we preached to you, they should be under a curse. 9 I’m repeating what we’ve said before: if anyone preaches something different from what you received, they should be under a curse!
Itching ears! Are we there yet in our time in which we live?
Believe it or not but there are people today with itching ears and there are teachers who are willing to provide such message that drives people away in their minds from the truth and purpose of the Gospel.
The washing of the mind with the Word of God is critical if you plan to continue in this Christian race that has been set for each one of us. Apart from God’s saving grace you will miss heaven as your eternal home.
Romans 12:2 Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him.
Messages that tickle ears can fill a lot of churches, conference centers, workshops, sell a lot of books, etc., but it WILL NOT bring about salvation through Christ Jesus who is the entry way to God in heaven.
John 14:6 am the way, the truth, and the life!” Jesus answered. “Without me, no one can go to the Father.
The remedy for itching ears is the “GOSPEL'“ of Jesus Christ. There is no other remedy.
As the people of God are we standing on solid biblical doctrine, or have we allowed the world to influence our thinking and desires?
At this site the truth will not be sugar coated. You will find sound doctrine being taught here. My hands will not be stained with the blood of no man because I refused to teach sound doctrine.
I am convinced that there is no other Gospel and no other foundation than that which has already been laid, Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
Sound doctrine which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ is not a message of comfort but one of God’s love and His saving grace.
The remedy for itching ears is this “PREACH THE GOSPEL”!
Preachers and teachers, is it our goal to teach “Christ” or scratch the itch of those who refuse sound doctrine?
Sound doctrine is about feeding the soul of man, not pleasing the flesh of man.
