Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unknowingly.
Angel= Aggelos in the greek and means messenger.
Entertaining strangers is being friendly or kind to those whom we encounter that we do not know.
Hospitality indeed brings surprises!
The life of a Christian is to be exemplified everywhere we go and in all we do.
it is important and imperative that we who are Christians not only talk the talk but live the life we talk about because we do not know who we may encounter on any given day.
One thing of a surety is the fact that the “LIGHT” of Christ shines through those who belongs to Him.
God’s work in the earth realm is done through the leading of His Holy Spirit by His children in the earth. Yes, we are the Lord’s hands, feet and mouth in this world.
Today, I want to share a story with you that touched my heart on Christmas Day.
A Christmas present was left for me by an anonymous giver about 5 days before Christmas.
To look at the gift that had no bow, no expensive wrapping paper and no identifying information as to who the giver was, my mind began to wonder who could have given this gift to me.
After looking for a name tag from the giver and not finding one, I asked myself “should I open it or wait until Christmas”? The Holy Spirit did not lead me to open it so I waited until Christmas morning to do so and to my surprise after opening it I found a note inside, not identifying the giver, but one that expressed obedience to the Holy Spirit by the giver in doing what she did in giving me this gift.
In looking at the outside of the paper in which the gift was wrapped, it was not fancy or colorfully decorated with bows and ribbons. It was gently wrapped in soft white tissue paper with love from an unknown giver.
Of course, after opening it I was in awe and cried uncontrollably with thanksgiving to the Father for not only in how He allowed an angel to cross my path but how He allowed His “LIGHT” to shine through me in being who I am in Him as a daily part of my routine.
As I opened the paper and looked at the gift and how beautifully it was knitted and read the note that i found inside with it I felt the presence and the heart of the giver and the presence of God Holy Spirit as I read the note.
I was touched deep down in my heart. It was something personal to me about that hand knitted shawl of many colors and that note from God to me through that anonymous giver that I can not explain.
I have no doubt that this giver was an “ANGEL” (messenger) from God, one whom I possibly had encountered somewhere and was not aware.
I believe God loves putting us in places where no one will receive the credit for what is done in the lives of His people but Him. He loves doing things like this. When God is in it we can hardly explain the experience.
After having opened this gift I began to ponder on Bethlehem and the birth of Christ for a few minutes. I thought about how we looked at Bethlehem and the animal stable that Jesus was born in and how it made no sense for a King to be born this way but it was God’s way of bringing His Son into the world to die for the sins of humanity so that we may live again in eternity with Him.
Jesus was not wrapped up in a big red Christmas bow, He came to earth in an animal stable and was clothed in pieces of cloth. The way Jesus came was not a beautiful sight to many, but what laid in that stable was the GREATEST GIFT OF ALL!
Angels! We entertain them daily, unaware.
This gift I opened Christmas day that was not wrapped with the pretty colors and the brightest and biggest bow is the one that touched my heart the greatest.
My point! We have no guarantee of what a day brings or who God will put in our path, that is why we must put forth every effort in living out the life we claim to have received through Christ Jesus.
To some of you who will look at this wrapping paper today, it may look like nothing but plain paper to you, but to me, it is the most beautiful piece of Christmas wrapping I have ever received.
Somewhere, one day I met an angel. Don’t know and can’t even remember who it was or even where it was, but none of that matters now that I know for myself that God dispatches His angels at His request and at His appointed time for His purpose.
I Thank God for His Holy Spirit who lives in me.
The beauty of Jesus’ story is the fact that the wrapping, the stable nor the manger had nothing to do with the gift called “Jesus“ for it was not the things that surrounded the birth but the miracle of the birth. Christmas is about the "GIFT” named Jesus !
I hope this story have blessed you today and also encourage you to allow God to use you too as an “angel” (messenger) to someone who may not even know Jesus because those are the ones He is still seeking today.
I have included a picture of the wrapping paper, my prayer shawl of 7 colors and the note that was included in the wrapping.
Just for me! Yes, Jesus came and died just for me! I take what Jesus did on my behalf personally.
Entertaining Angels unaware! Nobody but God can do this!
JESUS, THE GREATEST GIFT OF ALL!
