Psalm 61:1-3 Hear my cry, O God, attend to my prayer.
2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You; when my heart faints, lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a refuge for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. Is this your cry unto the Lord? This was David's painful cry in his time of turmoil and trouble.
David son Absalom had turned against his own father in rebellion. Absalom had temporarily taken over David's throne.
It was during this time of heartache and pain at the hands of his own son Absalom that David made the decision to turn not to revenge, but to turn to God for he knew it was God alone who could remove this great, unbearable and unexplainable pain that he was experiencing.
David had found himself in a deep valley of pain and he knew what to do. He went to God and cried out to Him in prayer.
The good news in the midst of David's pain and suffering is that David knew that God was always a prayer away. He knew that God is that secret place where the presence and peace of God can be found in the midst of the fiery furnaces of life, therefore, He seek the Lord His God and ask God to lead him to where His power and presence is.
People of God, regardless of what you go through or may be going through right now, regardless of how far you may have strayed away or even fallen away from the Lord your God, regardless of the severity of the struggle or the pain, the Lord your God is always a prayer away. He is your FIRM FOUNDATION, your SOLID "ROCK"!

People of God, whatever your situation may be on today, whatever pain you may be experiencing, either at the hands of self or others, there is a "ROCK" higher than our circumstances.
Our God is a "Strong Tower". Yes, He is our hiding place. He is the "Rock: that is higher than us.
David's prayer is that when his heart is overwhelmed that God would lead Him to the "ROCK" that is higher than him. David knew that on the top of the "Rock" is a Fortress, who is the Lord God.
If you read this text in it's entirety, you will see where David begins with a prayer of tears and a broken and painful heart, but, he ends it with praise.
Once we have spent time in prayer to God, we too should end with praise in knowing that God is indeed the "Rock" of our salvation and He promises to hear and answer our prayers from the deepest and secret places of our heart when we pour out to Him for help.
God is not only our Strong Tower and our Refuge, He is also our sure foundation and our "Rock." The Solid Rock!

David declares that God has been a refuge for him, and a strong tower from the enemy. David knew that God changes not. He had seen God's hands move on his behalf in battle, in the slaying of a giant and in one victory after another over his enemies, therefore, He knew that God is able to do the same again for He alone is the same God who was is and forever shall be.
