1 Corinthians 10:13-No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, and He will not permit you to be tempted above what you can endure, but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it.
TEMPTATION=peirasmos in the greek and means an experiment, a trial, temptation. Testing, being tried, calamity, affliction.
Temptation can also be described as an enticement or invitation to sin.
What is the Apostle Paul trying to tell us? He is informing us that "temptation" comes to us all. No one is exempt from it. In other words, it is common to ALL of humanity. None of us is immune from temptation. If anything, we are a direct target.
The point the Apostle Paul is trying to make is "yes", temptation is common to all, but, we do not have to yield to it for God is faithful and He will not allow us to be tempted beyond what we are able to bare and when we get to that point of not being able to bare it anymore, God will give us a way of escape from it.
This does not means that God will always remove the test, but that He will give us the strength needed to resist or endure without giving into the temptation which brings about sin with it.
It is not God who tempts us, but He does allow it to grow our faith and trust in Him. James 1:13- Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man.
If God does not tempt us then how are we tempted? Temptation is not of God. It is our desires of the flesh that causes us to yield to temptation, regardless of what the temptation may be.
Let's listen to what the scripture says about temptation and how it is formed in James 1:14-15 But each man is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed. 15 Then, when lust has conceived, it brings forth sin; and when sin is finished, it brings forth death.
Jesus was tempted by satan after spending 40 days and nights in the wilderness without food or drink, yet, He NEVER yielded to it. What He did was every time satan came to Him, He rebuked him with the word of God and we must do the same.
Hebrews 4:15-For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who was in every sense tempted like we are, yet without sin.
When I was growing up as a young girl in the church, there was a song that the saints of old used to sing titled "yield not to temptation". The lyrics goes like this:Yield not to temptation for yielding is sin; Each victory will help you, some others to win. Fight manually onward dark passions subdue, look ever to Jesus for He will carry you through. Ask the Savior to help you, comfort, strengthen and keep you. He wi willing to aid you. He will carry you through.
People of God, remember this one thing: when we are tempted to sin, God has given us a way of escape. Satan’s power over the people of God has been destroyed. Jesus won the victory at calvary at his death and resurrection.
Yes, satan still prowls the earth in his attempt to draw us away fro mGod and His will for our lives, but, with the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells in us and the Word of God, we have been equipped by God with the necessary tools needed of God to fight against and resist temptation when it comes.
People of God, use your WEAPON! The word of God is your sword. Psalm 119:11 Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
Ephesians 6: (paraphrase) put on the whole armor of God that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Our war is not against people but against spiritual wickedness in high places, therefore, put on the whole armor so that we may be able to stand in these evil days in which we now live.
People of God, take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God and expect to daily go out to battle against temptation for it is guaranteed to come to everyone of us everyday and at every opportunity.
People of God, with the Word of God and His Holy Spirit, we can do this!! Trust God to help you and you will make it through that test.
Remember, do not give into temptation for yielding to it is sin.
Temptation lurking? Yield NOT to it, but, instead, seek God for your way of escape because He has one for you.
God bless you all on today!!
