Joshua 1:8 This Book of the Law must not depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night so that you may act carefully according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way successful, and you will be wise.
What are you daily speaking out of your mouth? What are you doing with the "Word of God"? Are you meditating (thinking, reflecting, remembering) on the Word of God day and night? if not why not?
God promises a fruitful harvest in your life if you obey and do what His Word says, so why not do what He commands?
Are you using the Word of God as the authoritative power in your life? That is the purpose of God giving it to us. We are to meditate on it, study it, obey it and apply it to our lives.
God has given us the authority to use His Word in every situation of our lives. He reminds us in this text that it should not depart from our mouth. This means we are to speak it over every area of our lives with authority regardless of how big or small the situation may be.
Life and death is in the power of the tongue and those who love it will eat it's fruit. What are you speaking over your life and the life of your family members? Life or death?
There is an old adage that says "what you see is what you get, but, I have learned over the years that my words have power and the truth of the matter is we get what we speak!
This text is a call to courage. Moses is now dead and Joshua is now called by God to be the leader of God's people. The command given to Joshua by God is to "never let my Word depart from your mouth" for if you keep it in your mouth and do all according to what it says, you will be successful in leading my people and you will prosper". Oh, what a promise!!!
In other words, God is saying, "listen carefully, meditate on what I say, obey Me and do as I command you and your life will be prosperous" for you will not lack anything you need.
What has God commanded of you? Are you doing what He told you? If not, that could possibly be the problem in your life!
To be effective on this Christian journey, our words, attitudes and conduct must line up with God's Word. Yes, we must daily strive for consistency in our lives through the counsel of God's Word and what it commands of us.
Let not your focus be what others are doing, let it be on what God has commanded of you.
People of God start today by speaking out of your mouth what God's Word says about you. SPEAK THE WORD OF GOD!
People of God let your conversations and life application be seasoned and examined by the Word of God.
People of God, the Lord your God wants you to excel in life.
We may not have been called to lead God's people, the nation of Israel, but in our families we are called to lead God's little people, the children He has given us.
To train and lead our children effectively and successfully, we must meditate, study, obey and apply the Word of God to our task of parenting, but we must speak of God to them and tell them how good He is to our families and all that He has and is still doing for us. Also, let your children see you praying and studying the Word of God.
Training our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord does not mean they won't stray, but the Word of God declares that if they do, they WILL return because you have already planted the seed of God's Word in them.
God is not promising a trouble free life, but a life that could still be prosperous even in the midst of trouble for God is in it.
Obedience to God's Word and His command is the prescription to a successful and prosperous life now and in eternity.
God's prescription for a prosperous life! Are you taking your daily dose of the medicine (Word) He has prescribed for you?
O taste and see that the Lord is Good!
