Psalm 143:10 - Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good spirit lead me onto level ground.
This text is a part of David's prayer for help from his God in his time of distress.
David's enemies had been on his trail and he did what we all need to do in the time of trouble, he seeked God in prayer. Too often we seek other people advise or opinions first but here we see David seeking God first.
David prayed for the desire to do God's will for He ask God to "teach him to do His will". David knew that God's will was best for him, therefore, he requested of God to be taught His will.
God has something to teach us and we are in desperate need of not only hearing it, but learning from it and obeying it with our whole heart.
The more we put into practice what God teaches us through His Holy Spirit, the more God reveals His will for us to us.
David’s request for God to answer him reveals that he is actually listening for God’s voice.
Waiting and expecting God to answer our prayer after we have prayed is very important, but the truth of the matter is that many people pray without expectation of an immediate answer or maybe no answer at all because of fear or doubt.
I want to point this out that when David prayed to God he acknowledged Him as his God when he said "you are my God". Knowing that the Lord is his God gave David confidence and a wait with expectancy in knowing that his God would hear and answer him.
Prayers of expectancy is important and often neglected by us all. We pray but never wait for an answer. We get right up after prayer and go on about what we were doing before we prayed. We need to stay in our prayer position and wait on God because sometimes He answers us while we are yet praying.
How about you and I? Do we claim the Lord as our God? Are we confident that when we pray we expect Him to answer us because we too claim Him as our God?
Mark 11:24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you will receive them, and you will have them.
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to God must believe that He exists and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
David calls on God to lead him by His "good spirit" onto God's path which is indeed level ground." David knew that he does not know the right path to take, but God alone knows.
This "Spirit" is good because He is the Spirit of God, He is God Himself. He is good because God is good.
The Holy Spirit of God is third Person in the Trinity and He alone is good and the author of ALL good and perfect things, including the work of "GRACE" that He has show to all who would believe by faith.
Is the enemy on your trail and you are in need of God's help? David has given us a model prayer to follow on today.
Prayers that gets results are those that are prayed in knowing our need for God's help, prayer that reverence who God is and our doom apart from His help, a prayer of faith in believing that He will hear and answer while we wait with expectancy.
Are you praying to the Lord your God with expectancy?
God's Word promise that the effectual fervent prayers of the righteous will produce results.
People of God, keep praying, keep trusting and keep believing.
Thank You Lord for hearing and answering our prayers in Jesus name!
We love You Lord!
