Psalm 40:8-I delight to do Your will, O my God; Your law is within my inward parts.
DELIGHT= chara in the greek and is defined as joy, delight, gladness, a source of joy.
The Psalmist declares in this text that he has joy, gladness and peace because he has placed his hope in the Word of God alone which is the originator of this joy that is rooted in his heart.
Is it your desire to do the Lord's will in your life? Does it bring you joy to spend time in the Lord's presence? Does you heart truly find peace and fulfillment in God's presence? Is God's Word of life written on the inward pad of your heart?
When we truly delight ourselves in the Lord there is fullness of joy, peace, freedom, satisfaction, wholeness and a feeling of protection even in the midst of the storms of life.
Many today are looking for joy and pleasure in material things that are temporary and they often find themselves agitated, unsatisfied and constantly seeking more "STUFF" to fulfill an emptiness that can only be filled in a heart and mind that delights itself in the Word of God.
We are reminded of where true contentment comes from in 1 Timothy 6:6 Godliness with contentment is great gain. Delighting yourself in the Lord is indeed a true treasure where true contentment can be found.
Contentment from godliness is a treasure that can not be obtained apart from a personal relationship with God through Christ Jesus.
Joy down deep in your soul! Does this describe you? If not, why not? It is available to you.
Delight yourself in the Lord according to His Word and you will find joy unspeakable deep down in your soul too.
Chasing the things of the world in hopes of finding true joy? STOP IT! It's not there!
We have all been given words of encouragement from the wisest man that lived, King Solomon. Let's listen to what God is speaking through Him in Ecclesiastes 1:2-The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. 2 “Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “Vanity of vanities! All [that is done without God’s guidance] is vanity [futile, meaningless—a wisp of smoke, a vapor that vanishes, merely chasing the wind].”
Is the will of God for your life the desire of your heart? It is in God where you will find great pleasure.
Put not your trust in man nor the things of this world for they are daily fading away.
1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father[a] is not in them. 16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. 17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
If we chase after God's will and place our hope and trust in Him He will supply all of our needs and some of the things we desire.
A heart that does not line up with the will of God is not a heart that is able to delight itself in the Lord.
Storing up earthly treasures on earth? You are wasting your time in laboring apart from God for temporary gain.
Matthew 6:19-21 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
We are reminded in scripture what the Lord our God will do for us when we delight ourselves in doing His will. Let's listen to Psalm 37:4-Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.
I desire to do and enjoy doing your will O my God because your law is within my heart! Are you there yet?
Delight thyself in the Lord for indeed true and everlasting treasures you will find there.
