John 2:5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
In the verses prior to this text, John tells us that on the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.
Among those that were invited to this wedding was Mary, the mother of Jesus, and Jesus and His disciples.
A marriage in this culture is a GREAT big celebration. Weddings are joyful and an exciting occasions. It is a time to celebrate the beginning of a life’s journey of two people.
The Jewish celebrations and festivities sometimes go on for weeks, months or even a year. Friends and family comes from far and near and wine is a vital part of their daily life and is a necessity for weddings and celebrations of any kind.
After the wine ran out Mary spoke to her Son Jesus and said "they have no more wine" and Jesus replied back with these words "Dear woman, why do you involve me?" "My time has not yet come."
When Jesus said "His time has not yet come" He was saying that the time for the public manifestation of Him as the Messiah is not yet.
Instead of replying to Jesus' response Mary instead spoke to the servants that were present. She said to them "whatever He says to you, do it."
Jesus said to the servants in vs#7-"Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim.
After the gathering of the water, we see the result of obedience in the form of a miracle when the water was turned into wine in vs#8-10.
Jesus knew the importance of obedience for He obeyed His earthly mother Mary's indirect command to provide wine for the wedding feast.
This is a message to some of our young people today. Obey your parents for this is right in the Lord. Mary was Jesus earthly mother but He obeyed what she said. He is God and He gave the example of what children must be done when our parents request and expect obedience from us.
In obedience to what His mother said to Him, Jesus provided the wine for the wedding celebration and it was better than the original one they had.
The bible does not specifically say if the wine was fermented or unfermented. We do know that scripture says in Ephesians 5:18-Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.
When Jesus is involved in anything it WILL result in a miracle.
Obedience is better than sacrifice!
Is Jesus expecting obedience from you concerning what He told you to do? I have no doubt about it! You must do whatever Jesus tells you.
One point I want to make and it is this: We MUST obey Christ no matter how ridiculous the command may sound or even if it makes no sense to us. The command is to obey!
Jesus is calling you to serve Him in your service to others.
Jesus is still speaking to ALL of us on today as He did over 2k years ago at that wedding at Cana. He speaks to us through His written Word in the Bible. Are we listening and are we doing what He told us to do?
People of God, a call to a higher level of obedience is being sent forth today to you and I from heaven by the Lord God Himself.
it is time for the people of God to get moving forward in the things that Christ commands us to do. Yes, God is speaking to us.
Naaman, a commander in the army had to go bathe in the waters of Jordan 7 times to receive his healing even though he felt the command was beneath him and ridiculous.
Abraham obeyed God's command to leave his kinfolks and go to a land where God would show him as he travel and was blessed beyond measure and we are reaping the harvest from his obedience yet today.
This Christian walk is one of faith and obedience! Not your will or my will, but God's will be done in our lives.
Jesus told the servants to fill six jars with water. This command may have appeared ridiculous but it resulted in what was needed.
We are to do what God commands and then leave the results to Him. It will be one of a miraculous results, I promise you that.
In obedience to Mary’s command I say the same to you ALL, including myself: “Do whatever Jesus tells you to do!
It is time to cast off the mindset of darkness and depression and get moving in doing what God has commanded you to do that you have been putting off for months or years in doing.
This story is about a wine shortage and it is also about God being able to supply all of our needs when we obey Him in what He commands of us to do.
Do what Jesus tells you to do!
Matthew 4:4 Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Mary's voice rings out over the centuries and is resounding loud and clear even on today.
When we do what Jesus tells us to do, even if we don't understand why he asks it, we get to see God perform a miracle on our behalf and He gets the glory our of our obedience.
Think about this for a moment:You may be missing your much needed miracle because of your disobedience to what Christ commands you to do. Think about it!
God works with us in accordance to our obedience to what He commands of us daily.
In need of a breakthrough in your life? Obey the voice of God when it speaks to you. You will know when God is speaking to you. You can deny it, but your know it!
You must obey God to receive your breakthrough.
If you do what he tells you, Jesus will transform our situation. Just as the water was turned into wine, our sorrow can be turned into joy.
Obey! Do what Jesus tells you to do.
