Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[a] 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.
God gave this command concerning the role of parents to Israel through Moses thousand of years ago and the need to hear and obey these words still ring true today.
The dire necessity for parents to 'train up" children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord is "SCREAMING" for attention in our world today.
Parents, grandparents, big mama's, aunties, uncles, cousins, it is time to teach the children about the Lord God who created you and them.
Many children in the world today do not know Jesus and some are even offended when you mention His name to them. Some claim to have never heard His name in their homes nor out of the mouth of their parents or adult caretaker while growing up.
The bible declares that children are a heritage from the Lord and blessed is the man or woman whose house is full of them.
God commands that we as parents honor and acknowledge Him as the One and Only True and Living God and are to tell their children the same.
We are to tell our children that they are to love the Lord our God too with all their heart, mind, soul and strength and we are to set the example in the home of doing what we are teaching them.
Many children today know the lyrics to every hip hop or wrap song but can not quote you one scripture from the Bible. Something is wrong with this parents!
If children are living under our roofs, it is our responsibility as adults to train them in the way they should go. God commands this from us and if we chose not do it, we will answer to God.
Here is what God commands us concerning the children that have been entrusted into our care.
(1) Impress upon the hearts of our children the knowledge of our God. In other words, tell them who God is and what He has done for the family. (2) talk about God constantly in your home. Speak of Him at the dinner table, before you go to bed at time and when you rise early the next morning. Acknowledge God in all your ways. Let the children see you reading your Bible and let them hear you praying to the Lord your God. (3) Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. (4) write them on the door frames of your house and on your gates.
There are so many ways that God can be seen and heard in our homes. God can be felt and seen through prayer, bible games, daily bible study time, when situations or hardship arise in the home that may cause or bring worry to the family and they prayed and God answered, etc.
There are so many ways and so many great opportunities for the family as a whole to come together in prayer and talks about how God has helped the family in the past and how we believe He can do it again.
Showing our children that God can be trusted is important. This comes through testimony of past experiences of how God has come through time and time again for the family before and that He is able to do it again if we pray and believe.
Parents, another way to teach our children about God is when we are in the car. Put on the Gospel music and everyone join in singing and praising. Ask the children to give you an example of how they saw God work through them in school, maybe in a situation about a test or exam or even how they were able to comfort another student friend who came to school troubled.
There are so many ways we as parents can teach our children about God. We must find the best way that fits our situation and family and then do it.
Isaiah 54:13-All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children.
God's teaching does not make us nor our children immune from the troubles of life but, God's Word can and will give our children and us peace that surpass all understanding even in the midst of life's stormy and troubled seas.
Having God in the home can make a happy home. I am NOT saying a "PERFECT" home without problems, but what I am saying is a home that can be peaceful and calm even in times of distress and trouble in the family.
Yes, I know parenting is not an easy task, but if it has been assigned to you, DO YOUR BEST! Do the work that God has assigned to your hands as a parent and when you have done that God is well pleased.
Parents who neglect the responsibilities of parenting or who give up trying to train their children in the way God commands are trusting their children to be trained by a sinful society who could care less about God and what He says in His Word.
Parents, in neglecting your role you are giving your children over to a world that will teach them to eat, drink and be merry without even one thought of God and who He is is and what He commands.
Refusing to train our children as God commanded is a way of saying that I have decided instead to turn my child over to a merciless, secular, sinful culture who will and is able to do do a better job in teaching them on how they should live than me. This path is one of guaranteed destruction!
Will the children stick with God and never depart? Some do and some don't but God's Word declares this concerning those who have been train in the nurture and admonition of the Lord and later depart. Proverbs 22:6-Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Children may stray, but they will return. Do your part parents in planting the seed and God will water it and give the increase in due season.
Parents, do your part that the Lord has commanded of you and He will take care of the rest!
Parents, these commandments that the Lord God is giving to you on today are to be upon your hearts first and then you are commanded to impress them upon the hearts of the children that are under your care.
As the people of God we are commanded to love and obey God from the heart and to teach our children to do the same.
Parents, it is time to teach the children about God! It is time to lead by example as christian parents.
Mom and dad or mom or dad, where are you in this command from the Lord to you?
Each one teach one!
