Colossians 1:21-22 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of[a] your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation.
Once a prisoner to sin! We ALL were guilty or either still guilty of this charge.
Many at the Colossian church were being condemned for their faith during the writing of this letter.
The Apostle Paul reminds them that they are no longer condemned prisoners to sin but children of God after receiving Christ by faith for scripture declares that there is now therefore no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus who walks after the spirit and not after the flesh.
In these 2 verses of scripture the Apostle Paul is also speaking to us of our past condition as sinners apart from Christ and then he moves on to our current condition in Christ.
Eventhough we all come from different backgrounds, cultures, upbringings, race, economic and educational status, etc., we all have one thing is command and that is "sin".
Once prisoners in bondage to sin is how the Apostle Paul describes our former state prior to Christ. He says we were once "alienated" (separated) from God in our mind which caused us to not be able to comprehend or fully understand God's truth in His Word.
In other words, our minds were distorted, resistant and rebellious against the truth of God's Word because of our sin condition.
We are reminded in this text that sin separate us from God. Isaiah 59:2- It's your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.
As sinners who were separated from God we lived a lifestyle of willful disobedience and rebellion against God and His authority in our lives. We ALL were partakers of evil deeds. Yes, we ALL worked hard to do whatever necessary to please our flesh and give it whatever it's appetite called for.
When we were in sin the desire for the righteousness of God was no where in our mind but thanks be to God who loved us enough to send forth His Son Jesus to pay the price for our sin debt that we could not pay.
After salvation by by faith in God's atoning work on the cross, we are no longer prisoners to sin but prisoners to righteousness through Christ Jesus.
The good news to those of us who are saved by grace through faith is the fact that our past condition which separated us from God has now been changed from God's enemies to God's friend.
To those of us who are saved, our present condition is no longer wayward, disobedient, rebellious and alienated from God but it is one of spiritual renewal, forgiveness, regeneration, reconciliation and restoration with God through Christ Jesus . GLORY TO GOD!!!
Reconciled back to God the Father! WOW! This means we are no longer alienated from God but in a right relationship with Him through Christ. Thank You Lord!
The good news today is that those who have been transformed in the mind through the washing of God's Word by faith are no longer dirty with sin but cleansed by Christ blood sacrifice at Calvary which has washed away our every sin.
People of God we are no long prisoners but holy in the sight of God without blemish and free from accusations of the adversary. GLORY TO YOUR NAME LORD!!
Hebrews 10:10 So we are made holy because Christ obeyed God and offered himself once for all.
No longer a prisoner to sin. Jesus dropped the charges!
Thank You Lord!
