Proverbs 3:27 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it.
The wisest man ever lived, King Solomon, reminds us of this simple principle that we should be generous to others when it is in the power of our hand to do so. Those who the bible describes as "deserving of it."
Do not withhold good is a call to generosity, sharing and benevolence to the poor, needy, widows and those of the household of faith.
Whatever it is that God has graciously blessed us with should be shared with others. We should be willing to do just that because this is what God expects and commands of us. Yes, God expects us to be a blessing to others when God has provided us the opportunity and resources to do so.
A Call to generosity! Do you hear the Holy Spirit speaking to you? I have no doubt He is!
As humans we have no problem with receiving, it is only in giving. God is calling us to move from a place of selfishness and stinginess to being a blessing with what He has given us to help others that need our help.
Never ignore or walk away from someone in need of help, especially if it is in your power to do so for your hand is God's hand for that person.
I am sure the hard part of this is figuring out “to whom it is that Solomon says “deserves it."
If the opportunity to help someone is put before you by God you will have no doubt it. The response is to ignore the leading of the Holy Spirit or move with the Holy Spirit who is pricking your heart to be a blessing to someone through your generous giving to them.
God does not expect us to see everything He sees. The good news about God is that if we have a heart, desire or willingness to give, God is able to do a background check on everyone, immediately.
Generosity that is orchestrated or directed by God must involve wisdom, discernment, prayer and most of all, the leading of God's Holy Spirit. You will know when it's the Spirit of God leading you for you will not only feel lead to do it do you will willingly do it with a cheerful heart.
Never allow your past experiences with those who are not deserving to cause you to deny those whom the Holy Spirit instructs you to give. When He does, act immediately for the enemy of your mind will find every reason to snatch that notion God has placed upon your heart and mind to be a blessing to someone He is instructing you to be generous to.
This scripture not only applies to the poor and needy but it also applies to the men and women of the Gospel who labor daily with the Word of God to feed the people of God. Yes, we are to be a blessing to them also. They labor hours in the Word of God to give you hope and encouragement from God.
1 Timothy 5:18-It is just as the Scriptures say, “Don’t muzzle an ox when you are using it to grind grain.” You also know the saying, “Workers are worth their pay.”
If we are good to anyone, it should at least be to those who are of the household of faith.
Galatians 6:10-Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.
2 Corinthians 9:6-7 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[d] will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
In all we do, let us do it as unto the Lord for it is He who promises to reward our obedience and our faithfulness unto Him.
A call to generosity! Where do you stand on this issue?
Matthew 5:15- Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
Today, I call upon ALL of us to ponder the word 'GENEROSITY" and search the scriptures to see what God has to say about it.
