Psalm 127:1 Except the Lord build the house, those who build labor in vain; except the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Living your life apart from God? Been convinced by the enemy of your mind that you do not need God?
The Psalmist of this text reminds us that apart from active faith, trust and dependence upon God we are living our lives in vain.
If God is not in it your labor is in vain!
Excluding God from your plans of life is the worse mistake you could make. I know some would disagree with me, but read the scriptures. What does God has to say about it, not what I have to say about it.
God's word is the only one that will still be standing when all of what we have to say has failed.
How are you building your life? Is God included? Is your labor in vain?
The psalmist warns against an attitude of self-sufficiency and self dependency in this verse.
God wants us to find blessing and fulfillment in our work, but it is not going to happen apart from Him. Without God your work will be empty, frustrating, useless and in vain.
Why is it that you can see some people that may appear to have everything life has to offer but they are as miserable as they can be. Plenty of things but empty inside because of their refusal to include God in their lives.
The Psalmist inform us that "unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.”
This verse talks specifically about building a house, but it really applies to anything we build in our lives, whether you are building a house, a business, a marriage, a relationship, a new job, a family, a business, a church or a career.
Hebrews 3:4 declares these word "for every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
How are you building?
The life we build will speak for us. It will eventually show evidence of God's presence or His absence. Yes, it wil speak!
The driving home point that Solomon is trying to make is the fact that we should not start anything without God. Seek the Lord in all we set out to do and He will direct our path.
Proverbs 16:3 - Commit your plans to the Lord whatever you do and your plans will succeed.
If God is not in what you are doing, you plans may look successful and bountiful to the world but it will not have the blessing of God upon it.
Unless the Lord builds a house, he or she who labors do it in vain.
Any goal or achievement we strive to bring to pass MUST include God.
In our labor in life we ALL have a choice. We can go it alone or we can include God. One thing of a surety is when God builds a house, it last throughout eternity.
When we include God in the building of our careers, businesses, marriages, families, worship experiences, finances, etc., God indeed receives the glory out of what we accomplish for it is Him who is leading and guiding us in the building process of our lives.
As we daily cooperate with God, trust and acknowledge Him in our life building process, the psalmist say that God blesses that person with sleep.
In other words, that person is satisfied with the work that is taking place, they have found fulfillment in God in the process and they are at peace.
When your life is built by you, your way with your desire, your plans that does not include God, God the psalmist says the Lord does not watch over this city because you have not chosen to include Him but to go at it on your own apart from God. This type of building that does not acknowledge and include God does not bring God glory.
A life apart from God that rises up early, staying up late is all in vain. All their labor is for earthly gain and short lived. Sleeping and burning candles at both end , living a life of discontent, frustration and anxiety is unfruitful and is of great benefit to the world but a waste to God.
Do you want to cooperate with the Lord as He builds and watches over the things you strive to accomplish in life? Or, do you want to build and watch over things by yourself?
Remember, unless the Lord build a house, He who builds labor in vain.
How are you building? Where is God in it?
The life we live with God or apart from God will speak in the end.
