Proverbs 14:30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh, but envy the rottenness of the bones.
The heart is where our intentions and motives resides.
Sound means free from damage, injury, decay; showing good judgment or reasoning, sensible, wise, ethically correct, upright, honest.
A sound heart is free from wrath, anger, and envy,
Having a sound heart means that our inner man is whole, healthy, pure, wholesome, not diseased with sin. In other words, our conscience is pure and strong, not weak.
When our inner man is in a wholesome relationship with God, we purpose in our heart not to let sin interfere with our fellowship with Him. This is a heart that is spiritually healthy.
When your soul, your emotions and your inner man are in good shape, it gives life to the flesh and to the body.
A strong, health and sound heart is daily being strengthened, edified, built up and restored through daily prayer, study in the word of God and obedience to it.
Proverbs 17:22 A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength.
A healthy inner heart is a healthy outer body.
Envy and jealousy on the other hand is a disease of the soul that is rotten at the core of who you are. These 2 diseases cause people to commit horrible sins like murder, theft, slander, etc.
Remember Joseph, envy and jealousy caused his brothers to sell him into slavery. Even Jesus, he was envied and hated by the religious leaders and was eventually murdered.
When a heart is sicken with sin of envy, jealousy and hate it is decayed and rotten and WILL have effect on your outer body eventually. Sin is not a medicine, but a venomous poison that eats away on the inside of you and eventually destroys the whole you in the end.
An evil heart carries its own punishment which is described in scripture as "rottenness of the bones!"
We all have a choice today. We can choose a sound, healthy heart or a an evil, rotten heart. Remember, a healthy heart is like medicine for the soul but a rotten heart full of evil is rotting away from the inside out and will eventually brings you to ruin.
A evil heart always take you to a place you never expected and will unfortunately cause you to suffer unnecessarily from your inner man for an indefinite amount of time. This is a spirit of satan and not of God.
Romans 14:12-each of us will give an account of ourselves to God. Yes, we all will answer to the life we lived and how we treated one another, especially us who say we are of the household of faith.
Believe it or not but the condition of our inner man has a direct effect on the condition of our body. This is why we need to keep our hearts pure by daily submission to God's leading of His Holy Spirit and obedience to the Word of God which is our sustaining power.
Have you checked your heart lately? What's in there? Is it sound and healthy or is it evil and rotten? Remember, only our actions outwardly can tell what's inwardly in us.
Lord, create within us a clean heart and renew a right spirit within ALL of us. This is indeed our desire Lord and we know this is your will for us also!
A sound heart! Ponder these three words on today and do a self examination to see what you find.
