Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.
HOPE=elpis in the greek and is defined as hope, expectation, trust, confidence.
DEFERRED=anaballó in the greek and is defined as I postpone, defer, delay, postpone, hold back or put off.
When you are waiting and hoping for something to come to pass and it doesn’t come through and is constantly being delayed or even denied, this is what this text means by “hope deferred” that makes the heart sick.
This text deals with the fact that waiting is not an option. Therefore, in the midst of your wait, you MUST keep hope alive.
Many hearts are sicken because of impatience or hope in earthly things. They don't want to wait! Hot tempers and attitudes who want it now and when they don't get it now, the heart becomes more sicken and angered all the while blaming God!
If we look through the scriptures we see where we are often told to "WAIT" and be of good courage. Yes, waiting is hard, I will admit that. I hate waiting, but I do not have a choice so I have decided that I will wait on the Lord and be of good courage while I wait because scripture declares that those who wait on the Lord will not only be not ashamed but their strength will be renewed also.
We all have dreams, aspirations and expectations for life but when they don't happen in our timing, we seem to loose hope of them ever coming to pass. If our promise is from God, we can hope with expectation and faith in knowing that if God promised it, without a doubt it will happen in our lives at His appointed time.
It is in the wait where our faith in God is growing and being matured. We can't plant a seed tonight and have a harvest tomorrow, NO, time has to have it's place in the process.
Hope deferred can be a good thing because it not only teaches us patience in how to wait on and trust God but it is an opportunity for our faith in God to grow, especially if the situation that we are in is out of our control and the only person that can fix it is God.
The choice we all face today is hope or hopelessness. We decide! Which will it be for you? I have purposed in my heart that in spite of the situation or circumstances i go through in life, I will hope in the Lord my God in whom my hope is built.
Hope not in the world nor the things of the world because you will continue to find yourself discouraged, angry at the world and disappointed because the world's hope is short lived.
My advise to you is to put your hope in things eternal. Jesus is from everlasting to everlasting!
Regardless of what comes our way, our lives are in the hands of the Sovereign God of the universe.
One thing of a surety is without hope desperation sets in and people will do almost anything to escape their hopelessness. That is why it is important that we all continue to find hope in the promises of God given us in His Word for without it we leave ourselves open to every attack of the mind that the enemy who is out to rob, steal, kill and destroy us is guaranteed to bring our way.
People of God, I want to leave you with this word of truth and hope.
Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of ALL of our desires and longings. Everything we ever desired or need is found in Him alone, that is why we are exhorted in Matthew 6:33 to seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteous and when we do, all that we need will be supplied by God.
God loved us and sent us Jesus to give us a hope and a future. Jesus came to save those that are lost, the hopeless, wounded and the brokenhearted. He is the Savior. He is the Messiah. He is the answer to your questions. He is the one you have been looking for all your life.
There is a song that the saints of old used to sing that is titled "THE SOLID ROCK" and the lyrics goes like this: My HOPE is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness, I dare not trust the sweetest frame but holy lean on Jesus name.
On Christ the "SOLID ROCK" I stand, all other grounds is sinking sand!
Perhaps you visiting this blog site today and you do not know Jesus as Lord and Savior or maybe you are saved but are weakened in your faith because you find yourself in what appears to be a hopeless situation on today, I leave you with these words form on high.
If you put your hope in Jesus on today, I promise you that you will never have to be concerned about "HOPE" every being deferred again.
