1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
Peter is writing to the people of God in this text who are under great pressure and persecution from people who were anti Christ.
Peter begins this text with praise to God the Father when He says “blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Peter’s goal is to encourage God’s people in their time of great stress and anxiety to not just endure the evil they are experiencing but to make every effort to find joy and confidence in the midst of them because of what God had done through Christ Jesus on their behalf in giving them a living hope by saving them from the wrath of sin. .
Jesus Christ is coming again with grace for his people and being assured of this guaranteed hope we have in Him we can find hope and confidence even in suffering.
Every believer, (child of God) through faith in Jesus Christ is born a second time by the Holy Spirit of God, therefore, hope lives in us. We must stir up the gift that is already within us.
Because of what God has done on our behalf and as hard as life may seem at times we must put forth every effort to find hope and unshakable joy even in the midst of life’s storms and never attempt to seek revenge.
Life can be rough at times and especially rough under persecution but we must remain focus with hope in knowing that one day God will avenge us from all our enemies.
When we are reminded of God’s blessings that He has given us through Christ Jesus who is our living hope we CAN rest assured that hope awaits us at the end of going through on this journey called life.
Peter attempts to redirect the mind of his readers from pain and suffering on to the goodness of God. (1) God’s mercy-”according to his great mercy” we can have hope. (2) His mercy gave us a new birth in Christ Jesus who is our living hope through His resurrection from the dead.
The gifts that we received from our new birth in Christ are (1) grace and mercy (2) a living hope and (3) an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for us who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
Today I thank the Lord my God who has shown you and I great mercy in giving us a living hope through the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ from the dead. A hope that is still available to ALL today if they could only believe for Jesus declares that all things are possible to them that believe.
Lord please grant us the enduring power needed to be joyful and filled with your love even in the times of stress, anxiety and adversity.
Lord we thank you that ALL your promises concerning us are “yea and amen” in Christ Jesus.
Thank You Lord for our living hope who is Christ Jesus. The one who will receive us unto Him on that great getting up morning with peace and rest with Him forever in eternity.
Thank you Lord for being a faithful Father.
Your Servant Debra
