Proverbs 29:11 A fool utters all his mind, but a wise man keeps it in until afterwards.
It seems as thought we live in a society of angry people. Road rage and angry people are everywhere. You turn on the television or radio and instead of getting encouraging news you get people that are shouting and screaming out their loud and boisterous opinions with great anger and rage.
You drive down the road and instead of peacefully enjoying the scenery you find people who honking their horns like crazy, flipping their middle finger at you and cutting you off in traffic. What is going on in the world today in the minds of people.
When we allow anger to get us to a place where we have no control over it, that is a dangerous place to be because in your angry rage, anything is liable to happen because your mouth is working faster than your mind.
So many hurtful and painful words comes out of the mouth of an angry persons. Words that can not be taken back once they are spoken. Crimes have been committed by uncontrollable anger that has not only brought about harm to someone else but has also caused the angry person to suffer years of their lives incarcerated or even in death.
One thing that may surprise you is that the Bible doesn’t call anger a sin. In fact, anger is a natural, normal human emotion. It is uncontrolled anger that is a sin.
Ephesians 4:26 - Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger.
Here is something we ALL need to learn. We can be right in our cause, but wrong in our reaction. And in a split second, we take the place of God and may do something that will cause a lifetime of regret.
Get in the word of God where you can find strength and wisdom so when the opportunity of temptation comes to make you angry and rageful you will think before you speak and react.
Are you an angry rageful person? Do you lash out at people for no reason? You need to cry out to Jesus for help! I believe the problem for this type of behavior is hidden pain that has not been dealt with.
Perhaps you are an adult or even a teenager that had been hurt by someone in one way or another in your past that may have you feeling like you did not deserve what was done or what happened to you and instead of forgiving yourself and the other person, you choose to harbor anger and take it out on others who have nothing to do with why you are hurting and the way you are feeling inside.
It is in prayer, study and meditation on God’s Word is where you can begin to heal. No, you can’t do it yourself, you need help. Your uncontrollable anger and rage is proof that you can’t fix yourself.
Jesus can heal your wounded heart and broken and contrite spirit if you would cry out to Him for help in spirit and in truth.
There is a time to be silent, and a time to speak out, but the fool has no discernment about this. No matter who he may hurt, no matter who he may embarrass, no matter who may be hurt or offended by other’s harsh words, the fool will say what is on their mind.
A wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.” A wise man exercises discernment when angered. Instead of lashing out, he or she realizes the sad consequences of anger and know it is not worth it.
Proverbs 18:19-“A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.”
A wise man is not so concerned about proving himself right, or making his offender look bad. His desire is not to offend so that he might minister to his offender.
Are you wise or are you a fool? We ALL must consider this question.
Proverbs 8:33 “Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse it not.” There is no reason for us to not be wise. Only pride will keep us from asking the Lord for help.
People of God, we need faith and the wisdom of God to not walk around in anger. We need to walk in faith through the Word of God but of course we can not walk in faith without the knoweldge of and obedience to God’s word.
People of God as a redeemed child of God, you are called to be different. Controlling your anger is not an option or a suggestion. It’s part of our calling as believers.
Remember, words spoken from a mouth that speaks faster than it things is very dangerous and it WIL cost you a price that you are not willing to paying for it.
