1 Thessalonians 5:19- Do not quench the Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
God’s Spirit, His (Holy Spirit) is liken unto a fire that consumes or destroys everything unholy .
The holiness of God is that part of His nature that separates Him from sinful humanity.
The Spirit of God indwelled us at the moment of salvation and He desires to work in and through us. He wants the flames from the heat of His presence in us to empower us in giving us the ability to do the things God has already ordained for us before we were born.
We are the ones who determine if we will suppress or give the Holy Spirit free reign in our lives. God has given us the ability of free will to some degree to choose, therefore, the choice is ours.
When the Prophet Jeremiah said he was going to quit doing the Lord’s work because of the horrible treatment he had received from God’s stiff neck, rebellious people he had been sent to preach to , he said these words in Jeremiah 20:9 But when I say, "I will forget the LORD and no longer speak in his name," then your message is like a fire burning deep within me. I try my best to hold it in, but can no longer keep it back .
Have you ever felt the urging of the Holy Spirit leading you to do something and instead of doing it you chose to ponder too long and ended up not doing it? This is called “quenching the Spirit” through disobedience.
Quench not the Spirit, do not suppress or try to stop the Holy Spirit from what He is trying to do in and through you, or in what He is leading you to do. When you do, you missed an opportunity to be blessed by God yourself.
Do not put out the fire of the Holy Spirit when He shows up in your life, but instead obey His leading!
How do we quench or suppress the spirit? How does the flames of fire from God’s Holy Spirit burn out in our lives? When we choose to follow our own worldly desires, when we choose to be disobedient to the leading of the Spirit, when rebellion, anger, hate, bitterness, unforgiveness, etc takes root in our hearts against those we dislike or have done us wrong in one way or another are a few of the ways.
When we purpose in our hearts not to quench or grieve the spirit of God through willful sin and disobedience to God’s leading of His Holy Spirit in our lives, but, instead willfully submit to His will and authority in our lives, we will begin to bear fruit as we travel on the road with God that leads us to a closer relationship with Him by faith through Christ Jesus.
We will also begin to experience the fire of God’s Holy Spirit purifying us and leading us farther away from the desires of willful sin and in turn find ourselves in a closer intimate relationship with the fire of God’s presence in us.
The number one way of putting out the Holy Spirit flame of fire in our lives is disobedience.
Many people want to be used by God on their terms. God has a way that seems foolish to men, but it is the right way.
Is the fire of God’s Holy Spirit burning within you or has the fire gone out?
The Spirit comes to us as a fire, either to be fanned into full flame or to be doused and extinguished by the water of humans willful and sinful desires and disobedience.
Where are you at on today concerning the quenching of God’s Holy Spirit in your life? Is the fire of God’s Holy Spirit given free reign to accomplish what God’s will is concerning you today?
Is God leading you to do something and you are thinking too long about it and end up not obeying because you have allow selfishness, doubt and hesitation to out your fire?
If the Holy spirit is leading you to do something, JUST TO IT RIGHT THEN!
Are you ready for God’s Holy, flaming fire to fall in your life?
QUENCH NOT THE SPIRIT!
