Proverbs 13:20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, but a companion of fools will be destroyed.
The call today is to use wisdom in choosing who you network with as far as friendship and relationships are concerned.
We are living in perilous times and there are wolves among the sheep. A time where it is hard to tell who is fake with hidden motives and who is real, therefore, we must pray and seek God to help us discern through the wisdom of His spirit who people are.
Looking outwardly and making the decision to friend people can be costly in many ways if we are not careful.
We are reminded in this text to walk with the wise and we will become wise for if not and we choose to be friends or in relations with fools we WILL suffer harm in one way or another. The point is we WILL suffer in the relationship.
We all can attest to the fact that we have made wrong choices in choosing unwise friendships and relationships and we have suffered because of it.
As humans, we tend to assume that we can see, feel and experience everything there is to be perceived in life through the natural eyes, but there is a realm in the spirit that only those who walk with God can see.
Sight beyond what I see with natural sight is called spiritual sight. This kind of sight and revelation is given by the Spirit of God to those who belong to God and it not only enables us to see what the natural eyes can not see, spiritual sight also reveals to us and allows us to see what those who do not have the Spirit and wisdom of God can not see.
This sight is not available to everyone. Only those who have been born again by faith through Christ Jesus are constantly given this sight and revelation by means of God’s Holy Spirit.
Let’s listen to 1 Corinthians 2:14-The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. What Spirit? The Holy Spirit that indwells the believer at the moment of salvation.
Jesus taught His followers and reminds all of His people on today that we MUST rely upon the teaching and revealing of the Holy Spirit to know the things of God.
Let’s listen to John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Choose friends that have similar values and common goals where the things of God is concerned. Choose friends that have a love for God for they in turn will know how to love and treasure their relationship with you.
So many people are hurt daily because of unhealthy friendships and relationships. That is why it is with urgency that we seek God’s guidance in choosing friends.
Friendships and relationships are very important and are needed, but, if they are not beneficial to your spiritual growth in the Lord we may want to reconsider our desire to be in that relationship. Believe it or not, bad company ruins good morals.
Are your relationships filled with chaos, confusion and constant strife? Are your friends acceptable of who you are in Christ? Are they making progress in their relationship with God? Consider these questions when choosing a friend.
Are you always giving and the other person is always taking and never sowing back into you? In a relationship that works one way to benefit the other person? You are in a wrong relationship and need to find the exit door to that relationship. Beware of takers who never give back to the relationship and are always looking to reap where they choose not to sow.
No, we do not give to receive because the Word of God says in Luke 6:38 that if we give, we WILL receive.
No relationship is perfect but there are blessings found in relationships with other believers who are of kindred spirit.
Friendships can be based on many things, but there is something uniquely special about a Christian friendship that is based on love, honesty, a heart of service, truthfulness, selfless love, encouragement, unity in our commitment to our relationship with God, one another and His Work, etc.
As the people of God, we need spiritual friendships that nourish our souls. A Christian friendship that is based upon a shared devotion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
When the Lord brings a friend into our lives who exemplifies these characteristics, it should bring us to a place of humble submission in thanksgiving to the Father for we will know without a doubt that it was Him who directed the path of this christian friendship.
If we choose to enter therein relationships and friendships where the spirit of God is warning us not to go, we WILL eventually suffer harm. Obedience is better than sacrifice!
REMEMBER, CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY! If you choose not to, you WILL suffer harm!
