Psalm 142:3-5 When my spirit was overwhelmed within me, then You knew my path. In the way where I walk, they have laid a snare for me.
4 I looked on my right and noticed, but there was no one who would care for me; there is no refuge for me; no one cares for my soul. 5 I cried unto You, O Lord; I said, “You are my refuge and my portion in the land of the living.”
Saul and his army was on David’s trail and their attacks had him feeling overwhelmed and in distress. As he looked to the left and to the right he could find no help and to make matters worse there was no place he could hide from his enemy so David did what we should always do and that is to seek the Lord who is his hiding place, his refuge, strength and his very present help in trouble.
What I love about David is the fact that he knew God through a personal relationship with Him and he had no problem in seeking God when the cares and troubles of life seems to be more than he can bare.
In view of his situation, David profoundly declares God’s knowledge of his situation when he says to the Lord his God “You knew my path. In the way where I walk, they have laid a snare for me. O Lord; I said, “You are the only safe place I know; You are all I’ve got in this world.”
Yes, God knew ALL about David’s suffering at the hands of Saul. Why suffering? It is one of God’s “FAITH” strengthening tools for man. The good news is even in suffering if you belong to God, He promises to be with you in it!
When our spirits are overwhelmed by distress and filled with discouragement and snares from the enemy, the Lord our God knows the path we are taking and He offers us hope and comfort when we seek Him in prayer.
Searched all over for years in my pursuit of a refuge for my soul from the world and all it’s pleasures and could not find one, but when I seek the Lord God, I found Him to be a very present help. Have you ever been there before? I have!
When I am overwhelmed in my spirit where can I go or to whom can I run to when seeking a refuge for my soul? Where can I go but to the Lord!
When I was growing up as a young girl there was a song that the saints of old from Royal Baptist Church would often sing that made no sense to me back then, but now, the meaning of those words are clear as day to me. Oh how time and the power of the Word of God brings on changes even in the mind which is more important than any other place of change.
The name of the song is “Where Could I go”. The lyrics goes like this: Living below, in this old sinful world. Hardly a comfort can afford. Striving alone, to face temptation's sword. Where could I go but to the Lord?
Where could I go, oh where could I go? Seeking a refuge for my soul. Needing a friend, to help me in the end. Where could I go, but to the Lord? Where could I go, oh where could I go? Seeking a refuge for my soul . Needing a friend to help me in the end. Where could I go, but to the Lord?
People of God, regardless of how painful, distressing or overwhelming our situations may be, we MUST fix our eyes on Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.
Prayer through faith in our God WILL bring us comfort from God.
The enemy on your trail and the path in which you need to take seem to be dark? Seek the Lord God for He alone knows the path you need to take refuge in Him.
Seeking a refuge for your soul? Where could you go but to the Lord!
