Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
Matthew 26:14-16- Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said to them, “What will you give me if I hand Him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 From that moment he searched for an opportunity to betray Him.
The path to Jesus crucifixion is set in motion with the betrayal of Him by one of His close disciples named Judas Iscariot, who spent 3 years hearing Jesus teach, saw Him healed the sick, raised the dead, gave sight to the blind, caused the lame to walk, etc.
Yes, this same Judas who was chosen by Jesus and known by Jesus prior to choosing him, now betrays the one who not only Loved Him but proved it to him in not only choosing Him to be one of His followers, but also by giving Him the greatest opportunity of a lifetime in being able to personally walk and talk with God as one of His close friend and yet He took the greatest opportunity afforded Him to be deceived in His heart and mind by satan to betray Jesus, the one who came to give him life more abundantly, for 30 pieces of silver,
What a horrible exchange! 30 pieces of silver is what Judas agreed to pay for His own soul in his betrayal of Jesus.
Did Jesus knew at the time of His choosing who Judas was? No doubt about it! Let’s listen to what Jesus said when he chose the 12 to follow Him in John 6:70-Then Jesus said, “I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.”
Jesus knows ALL things. Nothing is hidden from Him.
It was prophesied in the old testament that Jesus would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver and we see the manifestation of it in this New Testament text.
God’s Word is true and WILL accomplish ALL that He has spoken, be it pleasant or unpleasant in the eyes of man.
JUDAS COMMITS SUICIDE
Having learned that He had betrayed an innocent man, Judas destroyed himself. Oh, the place of where the enemy of our minds will take us.
Satan always takes us further than where we want to go! After having betrayed Jesus, the enemy of the mind (satan) took Judas to a place called “suicide”. Let’s listen to Matthew 27:1-5 Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed. 2 So they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.
3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”
“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”
5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.
What have you exchanged Jesus for? What or who is it in your life is more valuable to you than Christ?
In His betrayal of Jesus, Judas sold his soul in exchange for 30 pieces of silver and at the end Judas suffered the “GREATEST” loss! It was his soul!
What is your exchange costing your now? The most important question to be answered is what will it cost you in eternity if you refuse to believe that God sent Jesus to die for your sins and that you reject Him as your Savior?
Betrayal! The cost of it is too high to pay so DO NOT take the bait!
30 Pieces of silver! What price have you placed on Jesus in your life?
