John 15:1-8 I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. 2 Every branch in Me that bears no fruit, He takes away. And every branch that bears fruit, He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. 3 You are already clean through the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, neither can you, unless you remain in Me.
5 “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who remains in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing. 6 If a man does not remain in Me, he is thrown out as a branch and withers. And they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you remain in Me, and My words remain in you, you will ask whatever you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
What fruit is Jesus commanding us as his people to bear in our lives? Glad you ask so let’s look at Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 meekness, and self-control; against such there is no law.
How can you tell if you're being led by the Spirit of God? Check your evidence by the fruit of the Spirit listed above. Do these fruit describe what you are producing and sharing daily in your life and the life of others?
Jesus uses the analogy of the vine and branches by saying that He is the "true vine" and God the Father is the "vinedresser”.
What is a Vinedresser? a person who prunes, trains, and cultivates vines. God Almighty!
When we choose not to bare fruit through the way God designs for us to, He cuts away those branches that are not bearing fruit so that new fruit can grow in it’s place.
In bearing fruit for the Kingdom of God, we MUST stay connected to Jesus for He promises that if we stay connected to Him we will bear good fruit.
We are warned that if we disconnect from the vine we will be branches that are thrown away in the fire for we are spiritually dead and are of no benefit to God.
Jesus says when we stay joined to Him and let His Word take root in our hearts and minds, then, we can pray for whatever we want and our prayers will be answered.
The problem with people today is the fact that they want the good bearing fruit and the benefits that God has that comes along with bearing good fruit but they do not want the disciple, pruning. and cutting away from the heart and mind, those things that are harmful, hindering and stifling our growth that causes us to not bear fruit for the Kingdom of God.
Many want to hold on to the world and hold on to God at the same time but no man can serve 2 masters. Either he will love one and hate the other. Guess what? We have to decide if we are going to bear fruit and grow in the kingdom of God or bare fruit for the pleasures of this world and spend eternity separated from God. The choice is ours!
The fruit that stays connected to the branch lives and the fruit that is disconnected from the tree by a life of willful sin will surely die a second death.
A fruit tree has to endure ALL KINDS of weather which includes, the rain, sunshine, storm, hurricanes, high winds, parching heat, etc.
As humans we don’t want to go through anything! We want to jump from salvation to the abundant life but there is a process called “sanctification” that we ALL will have to go through on this journey to heaven and sometimes it is very hard and painful, but God is with us in them.
Matthew 7:17-20 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot produce bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot produce good fruit. 19 Every tree that produces bad fruit will be chopped down and burned.
To bear the fruit of the Spirit in our lives daily, we must “REMAIN” in Christ. In other words, never depart from Him, continue to be in His presence through study of His Word, prayer, praise and worship. We must love God and one another and we will have healthy branches of fruit that are good and worth sharing.
Fruit is a source of food that we all could share with others. Are we not suppose to be a source of Godly spiritual feeding to those we encounter on a daily basis? INo doubt about it!
What kind of fruit is hanging on us from His branches? Can others have confidence in coming to us in knowing that we are a good source of Godly feeding for them?
People of God are your fruit ripe and tasty to others when they taste it? Me personally, I do not like sour nor bitter fruit. I like sweet, juicy and good tasting fruit.
What kind of fruit are you bearing in your life? If they are not the fruit of the Spirit you need to visit the Vinedresser for some more pruning and cutting away so you can begin to bear good fruit that is worthy of eating and sharing.
As the people of God we can’t eat from everybody tree! God has already told us the ones we are to eat from in this text that are called the “fruit of the Spirit”.
Bearing good fruit? I can only hope and pray that this describes your daily life if you confess to be a Christian!
