Colossians 3:23-24 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. For you serve the Lord Christ.
Are you working for God or for man?
Working for man produces pride but working for God with a spirit of humility brings God glory and honor, and for us, a reward of an inheritance because our service is unto the Lord through Christ Jesus.
I am sure that everyone of us, as we labor daily, do not only want our work to be in vain, but to counted for something.
Regardless of what type of work we do, be it on our jobs, in our service to others, missions, etc., just make sure that your are working as if you are doing it for the Lord and not for man.
Work started in the garden of Eden and continues even today. Throughout scripture we see God’s people working. We see them in the building of the tabernacle and in the rebuilding of Jerusalem to name a few.
None of us want to get to the end of our lives and say, “this is all that i benefited from all those years of labor.” We want to make sure that at the end of our work journey our labor made a difference in the people we encountered on a daily basis and most of all, it glorified God who charged us to work as unto the Lord.
When we work at our place of employment until retirement age we look forward to a retirement pension from our company for all our years of labor with them.
The same principal applies in working for the Kingdom of God when we work as unto the Lord, we are working for our eternal reward.
The good news for those who labor for the Lord is the promise from God to us that when we work as unto the Lord in ALL we do there is an inheritance that awaits us from God through Christ Jesus.
The command today from God to the people of God is to work unto the Lord and not man. I can not stress this enough because often I see the opposite and people often end up disappointed, angry, hurt and most of all revengeful.
We are reminded in this text that our work should be viewed through the eyes of God as His laborers and not man.
Proverbs 14:23 - All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Ephesians 4:28 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.
People of God, as of today we must line up our work practice and ethics with God’s standards so that He may receive glory out of work and that we may receive spiritual growth and an inheritance at the end of our work journey.
The question we ALL must ponder and eventually answer is “who are we working for and for what and whose reward are we laboring to receive at the end of our work journey?”
When we work in honesty and integrity as unto the Lord our work matters and is beneficial not only to our employer, but most of all to God who WILL receive the glory out of our lives and we in return will receive our inheritance.
Do you not only want to make a difference but be the difference? Well, this type of fruit from our labor starts with the mindset of knowing that in ALL we do MUST be done as unto the Lord and not man.
Man’s reward is short lived but God’s reward is everlasting!
God or man? To whom have you made your pledge of allegiance to?
Wisdom is the principle thing so in all your getting get understanding.
