Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honest, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue, and if there is any praise, think on these things.
Hundreds of thoughts run through our minds on a daily basis. What are we allowing our minds to constantly focus on ? What do we constantly find ourselves thinking about on an average day?
If others were able to see our thoughts will we be ashamed or not ashamed of them?
In this text the Apostle Paul exhorts us to develop a Christian thought life. You may ask “how do we do that”? I am glad you asked!
Let’s take a look at the prescription the Apostle Paul gave us for a Christian thought life that is guaranteed to produce positive thinking that has the power to transform our lives.
(1) Is what we are thinking “true” according to scripture, (2) Is what we are thinking “honorable” or worthy of thinking about, (3) are the things we think about “right” and conforms to God’s standard of righteousness and not what is right in our own eyes, (4) are our thoughts “pure” or undefiled, morally clean and holy thoughts or is our mind constantly in the gutter, (5) are we thinking ‘lovely” thoughts that causes us to love others as ourselves unconditionally, (6) are our thoughts admirable and positive thoughts that are worthy of constant thinking on them or are they negative?
If the Holy Spirit lives within us, we have the power through Him and the Word of God to change the way we think.
Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
2 Corinthians 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Do you really want a changed mind? Well, we have been given the path to making it happen starting today by focusing on things that are true, honest, pure, lovely , a good report and praiseworthy.
What are your daily thoughts? Find a quiet place on today and really ponder on what thoughts you are thinking on and if they produce negativity or positivity in your life.
Remember, the help we need to continue on in the path of positive thinking and righteousness is already in us!
Today is the day to let go of negative thoughts and to begin to think on and speak thoughts that produces life and growth within, that are exemplified outwardly in our interactions with God and others.
Today is the day to REMOVE negative thinking and negative talking from our mind and our vocabulary!
Remember, we eat the words we speak! Our words will produce what comes out of our mouth!
Let today be the day that we begin to give “positive thinking” a front row seat in our minds by surrendering our thoughts and will to the will of God for our lives!
As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he!
