1 Samuel 16:7 But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees. For man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Three things we are told in this text about God that is different from the judgment of men . (1) He does not see as man sees; (2) man judge by outward appearance; (3) God judges not by outward things, but by the heart.
The heart is the place where the activities of our character originates and it is the place where the results of our outward actions pours from.
Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
When God had rejected Saul as King over His people Israel because of his disobedience in not doing what God told him to do, He sent the Prophet Samuel to the house of Jesse to anoint His next King among Jesse 8 sons.
When Jessie brought forth 7 of his sons, God rejected them all. Samuel inquired of Jessie and said “is there another” and Jessie said “there is still the youngest who is tending the sheep.” Samuel requested he be brought in and when David came in the house, God spoke to Samueal and said “rise and anoint him: this is the one.”
God choose His King. David, the one who was considered the least among his brothers. God’s choice was not Samuel nor Jessie choice. LOOK AT GOD!
IF GOD BE FOR YOU, WHO COULD BE AGAINST YOU?
Oh how prevalent is decision making based on outward appearance is in our world today. People are being chosen and placed in position based on a lot of different reasons.
The good news on today is the fact that man’s ways and thoughts are not God’s way of choosing who He wants to use for His services.
God’s ways and thoughts are not those of mere men. Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
In our pursuit for God’s best, regardless of the area in which we are seeking to place people, it should NEVER be from outward appearance or any other matter, but of the heart for it is of the heart that God judges.
1 Peter 3:3-4 our beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes which call attention to us. Rather, it should be that of our inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.
How to develop a heart for God? I believe we start with having a love for God, humble heart and putting the things that matter to Him first in our lives.
Humility is not being a doormat, but it is simply recognizing the undeserved grace and mercy of God that has been bestowed freely upon oneself.
A humble heart recognizes that ALL I am, ALL I will ever be and ALL I have is but of the grace of God!
If you have been making life decisions by what you see with the natural eyes, pray and ask God to give you inside vision that judges the matter of the heart and not the outer appearance of man.
Can God brag on you as a man or woman after God’s own heart? Ponder this question because it is of high importance now and in the eternal future.
Our true identity is not what man sees on the outside but what God sees inwardly.
Man looks at the surface and God searches the heart for He alone knows that it is ALL a matter of the heart!
IT’S A MATTER OF THE HEART! GOD SAID SO.
