2 Corinthians 5:7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
The word "walk" in this text metaphorically is referencing the way a person conducts his or her life. In other words, the way we live.
The days in which we live are perilous and evil. Many people are trying to find their way through this chaotic world through the eyes in which they were born with and they are still finding it hard to find their way in life.
How are you walking? By sight or by faith? What’s in your view? What is life revealing to you through the lense you are seeing through?
The Apostle Paul declares in this text that the people of God, the believers in Christ Jesus, live by “Faith.”
What is faith? The greek word for faith is “pistis” which means faith, belief, trust, confidence; fidelity or faithfulness, which is a gift from God and not something we produce within ourselves.
Biblical faith is believing without physical proof that God’s guaranteed promise of that which He has revealed and promised to us, we already have it eventhough we have not yet seen it in the natural.
There are some things that can only be seen by faith through the lense of scripture. 1 Corinthians 2:14- But people who are unspiritual don’t accept the things from God’s Spirit. They are foolishness to them and can’t be understood, because they can only be comprehended in a spiritual way.
Walking by faith in a world that is perishing makes the believer look like a fool to those who walk by sight because the ways of God is opposite the ways of the world so walking by faith makes no sense to them that are perishing.
God spoke in Genesis “let there be” in the spirit and in the natural, it came into being.
The Apostle Paul in this passage of scripture is not commanding the Corinthians to “live by faith”; he is making a declaration that the Corinthians are living their lives by faith.
When we got saved, there was a process that took place called “regeneration” and we were justified or deemed righteous in the eyes of God. Not righteous in our flesh, but righteous in our position as the children of God for scripture says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Who we are as the people of God will not be fully revealed until we arrive in eternity with God.
Faith (Hearing The Word of God) is the light bulb that turned on in our head when we got saved (accept Christ as Savior), the Word of God is the electrical wiring (power unto salvation) that connects us to the power source who is God the Father. The Holy Spirit (guide and teacher) enables us and gives us the strength and ability that is needed to live the life of faith that God has called us to live with confidence, conviction and assurance of that which God promises us individually and collectively as the Body of Christ.
When Habakkuk wrote, “The righteous shall live by faith” he was reminding us of the father of faith, Abram in Genesis 15:6 Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
The righteous live by faith and in return, we are given eternal life with God the Father and not judgment and separation from the Father.
The apostle Paul reminds his readers that followers of Christ must not build their lives around things that have no eternal significance. Rather than pursuing the same things the world pursues, a Christian should focus on the unseen realities such as Jesus and heaven.
Our Goal in life should be to please God for without faith scripture declares that it is impossible to please Him.
Matthew 16:17 For the Son of Man is going to come in his Father’s glory with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to what they have done.
We are given an invitation and a warning in Revelation 22:12-“Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.
Walking by faith means living life in light of eternal consequences. To walk by faith is to fear God more than man; to obey the Bible even when it conflicts with man’s commands; to choose righteousness over sin, no matter what the cost; to trust God in every circumstance; and to believe God rewards those who seek Him, regardless of who says otherwise.
Sad to say but we are living in a time where the only visible difference between many professing Christians and unbelievers is the fact that Christians might not be home on Sunday morning.
God, open our eyes to receive the spiritual truth from your Word. Show us where we need improvement and give us the ability through your Spirit to do just that.
Walking by faith may sometimes seems to be walking with our eyes closed because faith is not seen, it is believed and in doing so we will see as we daily make the effort to walk by faith, the more confident we will be of the destination of our walk.
Faith is the assurance of things hope for and the evidence of things not yet seen.
How are you walking? By faith or by sight? According to life’s circumstances or according to God’s Word?
If you are attempting to walk this Christian Journey with the world’s lense, it’s time to put on God’s eye glasses called “faith” so that you may regain your sight and walk in the light of God’s truth in His Word.
Knowing by sight is not the same as knowing by faith. There is also a difference when it comes to walking (living) by faith and talking faith.
Which lense are you wearing today? What’s in your view? IF YOU ARE WALKING BY SIGHT IT IS TIME TO CHANGE YOUR LENSE!
If you are wearing the lense of “faith” ALL things are possible for you and your reward is GREAT in heaven.
Open the eyes of our heart Lord so we can see what you see!
