Hebrews 12:1-2Therefore, since we are encompassed with such a great cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. Let us look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
What have you fixed your eyes on? What has distracted you from pursuing a life in Christ? What has caused you to get off the Christian race track that God has created for you to run on ? Is it the distractions from all the world has to offer that is temporary? Is it other people or life’s circumstances? Is it that place of guilt from your past or even current sin?
Whatever it is that is keeping you from or convincing you that the Christian race is not important or of no value, you MUST cast those thoughts down and replace them with the Word of God.
2 Corinthians 10:5 We to destroy and reject every arguments, and every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God, and taking captive every thought into the obedience of Christ,
In other words, every thought that comes to your mind that is contrary to the word of God, MUST be rejected, refuted and cast down out of your mind by the power of the Word of God which is the only truth! God, the creator of heaven, earth and humanity is the only One who determines what is truth, not us! The Word of God is “TRUTH” and NOTHING rises above His truth!
We are living in a time where so many runners are getting out of the Christian race. It is time to Put on the whole armor of God so that we can protect our mind against the lies and wile of satan!
If you begin to fix your eyes on Jesus by faith in Him, His Word and prayer, you will begin to gain new sight of things that can only be seen in the Spirit. Then and only then can you have natural sight to see in the natural realm, but also spiritual sight to see those things that can only be seen in the real of the spirit of God.
Today is the day for ALL of us to go to God’s throne room for our eye exam that is long over due. When we put on the lense of God’s word, things begin to become a little more clearer and we begin to see things we did not see before, which enables us to make better choices and decisions because we have not only found new vision, but new revelation from God.
The call is to “fix” our eyes on Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith.
The word “fix” comes from a Greek word that has the idea of concentrating your gaze. It means to look away from other things so that you can focus all your attention on one object. With that being said, our focus is “JESUS” who is the Author and Finisher of our faith.
To run this race and to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, there are some things and even some people that we have to separate from. Yes, we have got to let them go!!! Those things and some people in our lives are heavy weight which not only makes us tired and burnt out, but eventually causes us to quit the race that God has told us to run with endurance, for He is with us.
Indeed, the race course of life by faith is not an easy one. We will experience the hurdles of suffering, persecution, pain, sickness, opposition, etc as we continue to run this race. No, running the race will not make us immune from the obstacles on the track. What we have to do is jump over them and keep running for the finish line is up ahead.
We have as witnesses, those saints that are gone on before us who are spoken of in Hebrews 11 that are described as a “cloud of witness”. They are our example of hope and perseverance, but Jesus is the greatest example of them all for He endured the cross, and despising the shame and is now seat in a place of ALL power and authority at the right hand of God the Father in heaven.
As the Author and Finisher of our faith, Christ is the one who laid the foundation for our faith by His death and resurrection. He is the one who endured the cross and made salvation possible to ALL that would believe. He is the one that strengthens us when we feel like giving up and quitting the race. He is the one making intercessions on our behalf to the Father as we continue to run the race that is set before us.
When we have finished our race, just like the Apostle Paul we too would be able to boldly confess these words found in 2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
We have the example of those Christians in chapter 11 who have already finished their race as evidence that it is possible for us too.
LOOK UNTO JESUS! He is the only one who can save us!
The author of Hebrews calls believers to consider the ultimate example of perseverance, who is Jesus Christ.
STAY IN THE RACE!
