James 4:14-whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.
Who knows what tomorrow holds? God alone knows!
Life is full of uncertainty. To be honest, nothing can be taken for granted because there is no guarantee of even the next moment.
The Apostle James reminds us of the brevity or shortness of life. He describes it as a vapor that appears for a little while and then it’s forever gone. A vapor can never be captured once it is released and never recaptured once it disappears.
Because of the brevity of life, we are remind of this in Ephesians 5:16-Therefore see that you walk carefully [living life with honor, purpose, and courage; shunning those who tolerate and enable evil], not as the unwise, but as wise [sensible, intelligent, discerning people], 16 making the very most of your time [on earth, recognizing and taking advantage of each opportunity and using it with wisdom and diligence], because the days are [filled with] evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish and thoughtless, but understand and firmly grasp what the will of the Lord is.
Life ‘s vapor. Here today and gone tomorrow.
We are reminded that when making life’s plans, do not boast about tomorrow because none of us knows what a day will bring. James 4:13-15 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”
What we should say about tomorrow is found in James 4:16-“If the Lord lets us live, we will do these things.
We are called to walk in the wisdom of God. What is the wisdom of God? It is the Word of God. Walk according to it’s standard.
The way we walk is the way in which we live our lives. How are you living? What pattern of lifestyle have you chosen to live? What words, choices and actions make up you day?
Psalm 90:12 - Lord, teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.
Today is the day to call upon the Lord for the saving of your soul. Yes, today is the day of salvation!
The Apostle Paul describes these bodies of our as “earthly tents”. Tents are set up for temporary stay. That is what our life here on earth is, temporary.
Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: 2 A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot.
We are born, we graduate college, chase our careers in hopes of accomplishing them, we settle in the workforce, we buy houses, cars, etc., we enjoy the birth of our children and grandchildren, we enjoy and plan our vacations and family times together, we spend, we buy, we grow older with those we love and care about, we retire and enjoy life and then we begin to reflect back on life and how we worked hard all our years and the day we had been working so hard for has finally come, we enjoy our retirement years and the fruit of our labor as God tells us to do, all the while growing older.
Life, even as short and uncertain as it is, where is God in the scheme of things in your life? What role does He have in it?
In your life of living, are there any “Good Samaritan” stories inbetween? There is a “GOOD SAMARITAN” that I personally know of and have never met one like that person. He serves the needs of poor, needy and helpless around the world.
G.R. is truly a living picture of a “Good Samaritan” who continues to live his life in service to God in his services to those who are considered to be the “least” among us (poor, needy, blind, etc) around the world from a heart of gratefulness, joy and thanksgiving. Truly, he knows the principal of “wise living” in the sight of God.
Spending this short and uncertain life in view of self and no desire for God being a part of our short life, will cause us to perish in the end!
The time to get our hearts and mind right with God is now! Put not off today for tomorrow because no one knows what tomorrow will bring.
Are you taking seriously, the brevity and uncertainty of life? Or, are you ignoring the two of them? Do you think you can escape the certain end of life somehow, and that the sudden end of life will not be coming upon ALL of us some way, some day? If so, this is called “DECEPTION” and is not from God but of the devil himself.
Proverbs 5:11 At the end of your life you will groan, when your flesh and body are spent.
Here today and gone tomorrow! What is your take on this reality of life!
