Matthew 13:44 Finding My Unexpected Treasure At The Edge of The Woods One Night

Matthew 13:44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field.

Have you ever had a day that started out completely normal, but ended up changing your entire life?

The man in Jesus' story in this text isn't a treasure hunter. He doesn't have a map. He is likely a poor day-laborer hired to plow someone else's field. To his surprise, his plow strikes something hard. He bends down, brushes away the dirt, and his life changes forever. He just found the greatest treasure known to man.

In the ordinary, dusty fields of our everyday lives, God meets us there. He met Moses while he was tending sheep, He met Matthew while he was sitting at a tax booth, and He met Peter while he was washing fishnets. He met Debra standing right at the edge of the woods, crying out to Him on a Saturday night around 10pm. The pain was real, the struggle was real, and I was completely at the end of my rope. But guess what? God met me right there.

Where were you when you stumbled across your treasure? Debra was standing right at the edge of the woods behind her house, crying out to Jesus on a Saturday night around 10pm. The pain was real, the struggle was real, and I was completely at the end of my rope. But guess what? God met me right there.

Having found my “Treasure” in Jesus in the dark of the night I have been transformed and I am no longer the same!

Finding the treasure is only the first half of the story. The real turning point is the willingness to surrender everything we have to secure it.

God bless!
