Luke 18:1-5 Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. 2 He said: “In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared what people thought. 3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, ‘Grant me justice against my adversary. “For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, ‘Even though I don’t fear God or care what people think, 5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, so that she won’t eventually come and attack me!’”

The Gospel writer Luke introduces this story by stating that Jesus shared it so His disciples would know that they "should always pray and not lose heart."

In this parable, Jesus uses a widow who refuses to take "no" for an answer from an unjust judge to show us the absolute necessity of persistent prayer. This woman demonstrates exactly what it looks like to keep seeking God by faith, even when facing delays or when it feels as if God is silent, which we know He is not.

Faced with rejection from an unrighteous judge, she does not walk away in despair. Instead, her relentless, day after day knocking becomes her greatest weapon, and in doing so, she demonstrates a faith that refuses to quit until she receives her breakthrough.

This message is for each of us today. God reminds us that true faith is not a single, half hearted request, but a persistent, steady knock on the doors of heaven.

Unlike the unjust judge, God is a loving Father who actively desires to bring justice, vindication, and healing to His children. However, He often delays His answers to grow, stretch, and mature our faith and endurance.
