Matthew 6:34: “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Jesus gave this message during the Sermon on the Mount to people who feared for their basic survival, like food, water, and shelter.

Biblically, worry is defined as a state of anxious unease about the future that stems from a lack of complete trust in God’s goodness, power, and provision. Rooted in the Greek word merimnao (meaning to be pulled apart or divided in one's mind), Scripture frames worry as a distraction that misdirects faith away from God.

The weight of worry: Worry makes you carry tomorrow's load using only today's strength. You try to live two days at once.

Control vs. trust: Worry happens when we try to manage the unknown that we cannot see or control. Faith means trusting that God sees everything.

God's provision: Jesus points to the birds and the lilies. If God takes care of basic nature, He will take care of His children.

A Prayer For Today
Lord, you give us 24 hours in a day. Help us not to open tomorrow's box until tomorrow arrives. Instead, help us to pray and trust You more each day, knowing that You are in full control of all of life’s affairs, including each of our individual lives. Amen.
