Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

God specifically planted a beautiful garden in Eden. He caused trees to grow that were pleasant to the eyes, and provided food. Adam and Eve were free to eat from any tree in the garden, except for the Tree of Life and the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil.

Take notice where God placed those trees: in the center of the garden.

Believe it or not, but our lives are defined by what we place at the center. It’s either God or self.

In that garden, God placed Adam there to work, and gave him instructions that he must follow.

God told Adam, “You may freely eat the fruit of every tree in the garden, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat its fruit, you are sure to die” (Gen. 2:16-17, NIV).

Where is our focus today regarding this command? Do we do what God says, or what the adversary tells us we can do? You do know that we have an enemy name satan, right? Guess what? His goal is to daily tempt us by twisting God’s Word.

We live in a world where the number of distractions is innumerable. To remain focused on God, we must daily rid ourselves of the distractions that are constantly screaming for our attention.

Spiritual stability requires constant communication with God. Anchoring our hearts and minds in His Word is the best way to stay grounded and avoid drifting.

What is your goal? Is it to be more focused on pleasing God or the world? Which is it for you?

Today is the day to align your thoughts and actions with God’s voice.
