1 Peter 4:10 - 1 Peter 4:10- As everyone has received a gift, even so serve one another with it, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
God commands every believe to use their spiritual gifts to serve others. This is a direct command, not an optional suggestion. When someone gives you a gift, they expect you to use it. The same applies to the spiritual abilities God gives us. When everyone does their part, the local church is strengthened, encouraged, and sustained through trials.
Putting our gift together requires us to find a specific place in our local church and community. If we have the gift of teaching, we need to teach a class. If we have the gift of administration, we need to serve on a committee. If we have the gift of helps or encouragement, we need to be actively lifting others up.
Perhaps, the person reading this right now might need a little trial and error to find where you best fit, but the main rule is simple: do not leave your gift sitting on a shelf.
The Apostle Peter call us “good stewards” of God's grace, meaning we are accountable to God. A steward manages what belongs to the master, not themselves. Much like a flight attendant who distributes food that belongs to the airline, not to them, we do the same in our services as unto the Lord.
In the parable of the talents in Matthew 25 Jesus emphasized this responsilibty through the parable of the talents. The servants who invested their talents were highly rewarded, while the one who buried his talent out of laziness was punished.
Our ability to serve is a stewardship from God. Are we actively using our gifts and talent for God’s glory, or have you buried it?
One day God is going to return, and He will ask to see what we did with what He gave us. Don’t let Him find our talent hidden in the dirt. Remember, when we are serving other people in the church or even outside the church, our true audiance is God Himself.
By stepping into our God-given roles, Christ’s light reflects perfectly through us, and we truly become the light of the world.
Our ability to serve in or outside of the church is a stewardship from God. What are you doing with your spiritual gifts?
Starting today, make everyday a daily habit to ponder these words. “Don't leave God's gifts buried in the dirt today. Dust off your gift and put them to work.”
