Psalm 27:14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”
People of God, take notice here that the Psalmist tells us to “wait on the Lord” twice. This repetition is intentional, and it places a heavy emphasis on just how vital this spiritual discipline is for our lives.
In the original Hebrew, the word used for wait is qavah. This does not mean passive boredom or sitting idly by. Instead, it literally means to twist or bind threads together to form a strong rope. It implies a lingering, enduring expectation and an active binding of one's heart to God while looking forward to His move.
True biblical waiting is simply faith in action. It carries the idea of looking forward, not only in trusting God, but having absolute faith that what He promised will happen. Think of it as an eager anticipation, fully believing that God is going to do exactly what He said He would do.
People of God, we are reminded on today that our waiting is never wasted. Centuries ago, the prophet Isaiah also spoke to God's people about the life-changing impact and power of waiting on the Lord. That truth hasn't changed for us today. While you are patiently waiting on God, He is actively renewing your inner strength.
In essence, the Psalmist is promising that if we wait on the Lord and remain of good courage, God will strengthen our hearts. This carries the weight of a firm, unwavering belief that God is actively moving on our behalf, even when we cannot see it yet.
Waiting on the Lord does not mean we sit back and do nothing. Rather, it means that we fully trust in God, remain faithful to Him, and patiently depend on His timing, which is always perfect.
People of God, as we wait on the Lord, our inner man is being strengthened!
O what a promise from the Lord our God! No, God has not forgotten you.
